Spring Training Time!!

OK,, folks, spring training is here. Please upload your Spring Training plans and roster modifications by Sunday Morning.

Rule V draft selections were:

HOU C Thomas Geter, Covington
BRK 1B Michael Slye, Covington
LA CF Monte Goss, Covington
SAS 3B Royal Wilson, Covington
SEA MR Michael Toyoharu, Danville

(PS... Yes, I know the front page of the league has changed.... I'll restore the old version later. In the meantime, you can still get the league file from the link on the right side of this blog.)

  1. Zev: When I downloaded the game, it was still on the Rule 5 draft. It said the draft was completed when you clicked on the Rule 5 draft, but it was still showing as underway in the standings page and there wasn't a way to get to spring training. Can you double check your version?

  2. Nice to have the link to the league file there. Can you also put a link to the Standings page, too, for even easier access to it, without having to view My Precious on the home page (while it looks nice in Mack's office, it looked much nicer in my hands when I saw it in person, and it doesn't look good on the home page; it's too taunting).

  3. Oh, and is the new Covington owner active? I don't ever remember seeing an intro post from him, and the team has been idle all offseason, including letting four guys go in the Rule V draft.

I know Denver is active, but I haven't heard a peep from the new Covington owner.

  4. Mack,

I'll try to look into it later today. If not, then it'll have to be Saturday night. If so, then I'll push off Spring Training until Monday or Tuesday.

    Michael,
I'll see if I can do so. In the meantime, I've put the league page back so you can view Your Precious again.

And the new Covington owner has been... evasive. He hasn't returned emails, but I did manage to snag him on AIM at one point. I'd hate to have to look for another replacement now...

  5. Zev: I can confirm Mack's comment about the Rule V draft not being finished yet. It says it is at the end of the last round, but the draft is not finished yet.

And, for a mostly esoteric point of discussion, I'm curious about the rules regarding which round a player is drafted in the Rule V draft.

For example, in my e-mail to you with my picks, Goss was my second round choice. My first round pick (Slye, taken by you, coïncidentally) was taken before my turn, so Goss was bumped up to be my top pick.

However, if one of the teams below me in the draft order had selected Goss as their second round pick, would I have lost him?

I know it's a matter of semantics, and it (probably) didn't affect this year's draft, but I want to be clear about this for future drafts, especially next season when 60% of my rotation will be retired and collecting social security. :)

  6. No No, Godammit, NO!

That Covington owner just tossed 4 decent, and one damn fine, prospect away. If he's not playing then toss him. I'm sick to death of this sort of imbalancing behavior. Or rewind and put it on computer control or something.

Replace him or replace me, dammit.

  7. Nate:

With all due respect, I think that the emotional component may in part be your fatigue talking. Obviously, it's not ideal to have an absentee owner, but it's not new nor is it unique to this league. The OEL league has had similar issues despite our best efforts. I think it's an unfortunate side effect of this type of online league.

Also, for what it's worth, Covington only lost three prospects and a serviceable catcher. The best prospect, in my opinion, was lost by Danville.

And, I think it's safe to say that Zev will put Covington on computer control pretty quickly if the owner doesn't show up again soon. For what it's worth, I emailed him a few times during the offseason and got no response.
