Note On Rule Changes

An owner asked me via email when any rule changes that are being discussed will be implemented. He asked because (rightfully) the choices he makes depend on the answer.

Any changes that we decide before we flip the calendar to 2015 will be implemented when the calendar year flips.

As a result, I've decided to hold off on the sim until Monday night to give owners time to change their plans.

  1. I agree that something(s) need to be done to change the competitive balance, but don't venture to opine on what exactly to do since I'm so new to the league.

That said, I don't think it'd be fair to implement major changes this offseason. Creating draft pick compensation, changing budgets, and/or eliminating the cash cap all should be implemented next offseason it seems to me. Personally, I took over Saskatoon and have been operating (e.g. made free agent offers and other organizational and roster moves) based on the exisitng rules, finances, etc. Altering things this offseason would render much of that obsolete and I'd ask that whatever changes are made not take effect until after this offseason.

  2. As I stand to lose a ton of money if the mob mentality gets its way, I'd like to see this get settled sooner, rather than later.

After all, Dong Lutz needs to feed his family!
