Saskatoon, Cleveland Win Again

The Amigos pulled off a second victory in the first round of the Cecil Cup by beating the Monarchs 5-1. Saskatoon's Thomas Cohen pitched a complete game, striking out five for the victory. Saskatoon's young SS Royal Wilson hit his second homer of the series with a three run blast off reliever Dalton Davis in the 8th.

Meanwhile, over in the Buckeye state, the Cleveland Steamers steamrolled the Sternwheelers with a 5-3 victory. 3B John Grondin and 2B Nathaniel Burton both chipped in with 3 hits each in the Cleveland win.

Next, the Adams series moves up north to Maple Leaf Land and the Zotti series goes down the I-77 to River Cities. See you on Thursday night.

  1. Another strong pitching performance with Turner going in game 3. I like the way this series is going.

  2. Oh boy, things just got interesting in a real-quick hurry in the Adams League.

  3. I'm not waiving the white flag, but if this is the end of the Monarchs' dynasty, it's been a heck of a run. Perhaps I went too far for the sentimental this year, bringing back Mudge and Nelligan.

In any case, I expected to lose Game Two since I was the one who traded Cohen to Saskatoon in the first place.

  4. Going down quietly, it looks like. Losing Palacio hurt, sure. And losing Villatoro hurt, sure. But Hukill, arguably the best player in the game, is batting a grand total of .000 in the playoffs so far. I'm not going to get far going that way.

  5. Impressive pitching so far by Saskatoon. I just figured out that my team's OPS for the first two games of this playoff series is .430. Ouch.

  6. By my back-of-the-envelope calculations mine is just under .500. But I had two doubles and a home run in one game.

  7. Yeah, I just did the calculations for OPS for the serieses...There is a big difference between the currently winning teams and the currently losing teams right now. Saskatoon - .847; Cleveland - .829; River Cities - .513; Seattle - .434. I think it is funny because I only have 4 2B's and the rest were singles and Saskatoon has 4 HR's leading the playoffs (The rest of the teams combined has 1). I will be interested to see if this turns around or not.
