  1. Random draft history fact of the day. Frank Dejean is the oldest pick who is (a) still active and (b) has never made it to the major leagues. Frank was picked in 2004, in the seventh round by the now-Shackamaxon franchise.

He has played 15 seasons in the minors from 2004-18 and is sitting patiently by the phone for a sixteenth minor league season. He's only 34! Surely, someone could use a utility guy like Frank and keep his dream alive.

  2. Second random draft history fact:

Here are the number of players originally drafted or signed as international free agents by each team that had a career major league VORP (through the end of 2018) that was positive. In essence, how many guys helped out on the major league level?

    Maui: 41
    Monck's Corner: 38
    Seattle: 35
    New York: 31
    Shackamaxon: 30
    Cleveland: 29
    Houston: 29
    Ohio: 29
    Saskatoon: 27
    Danville: 26
    Hickory: 25
    Brooklyn: 24

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this surprised me.

  3. Obviously, this means I am brilliant!

Let's just ignore the fact that the computer probably drafted most of those Maui players before I took over the team...

  4. I think it means your franchise has drafted pretty high through much of the history of the league. :)

  5. By the way, I'm starting to pull together the VORP figures for players not drafted (e.g., those in the original draft, those created when we filled out the 2003 rosters, etc.) If there's anyone in particular you want to know about, let me know.

I was of course interested in my beloved Mr. Mudge. He turns out to be behind Dong Lutz but ahead of Luis Jeon in career value. (Maybe there's another expansion 1B who will break into that level, but one doesn't come to mind.)

Anyway, this is a long way of telling you to let me know if there's a player or players you want to know about in particular.

  6. Another by the way. Sean Arant has now pulled into the lead as the greatest centerfielder of all time, passing Miguel Cuesta.

  7. Ahh, Sean Arant, the closest the OOTP world will ever get to a Rickey Henderson.
