Maui's Five Homers Down Monarchs, Take 3-2 Lead in Cecil Cup Series

The balls were flying out of the park off of the Maui bats as the Maui Mashers defeated the Seattle Monarchs 5-2, putting them one victory away from a Cecil Cup championship.

Ronald Placencia didn't have his stuff today as five different Mashers each launched a solo home run off of the veteran right-hander.  On the other side, Anibal Ottman scattered eight hits over seven innings giving up only two runs.

  1. Hmmm. Just like last year. Win the first two games and then cratered. At least I have experience with this kind of defeat.

Then again, I have experience with almost every kind of Cecil Cup defeat. :) This will mark loss number six in the big enchilada.

  2. FIVE solo home runs? At least they're keeping them off base.

  3. Wow, that was a surprise. Placencia is not exactly prone to giving up the long ball.

Not sure why you're so defeatist, Mack. Hickory was up 3-1 and you came back to win. (Sorry to bring that up, Frank.) Still no road game wins for either team in this series, which doesn't bode well for me. Can my luck continue?

  4. It's just an intuitive feeling. I had really bad luck in the playoffs and lost consistently. Then I had a run of really good luck leading to seven titles in nine years. It just feels like I'm due for some losses.

Of course, the math also says I only have a roughly 25% chance of pulling the series out, so there's that too.
