Two Errors By Reed Help Give the Monarchs Their 11th Crown

It just wasn't the right day for London starter Paul Reed.

The game was going well for the Dragons up until the seventh inning.  They took a one run lead in the fourth against Monarchs starter Toyoshige Takahashi with a leadoff single by Miguel Ramirez, a wild pitch, a sac fly by Mauro Ocascio and a triple by Edgardo Collazo.

From there, the score remained 1-0 until the seventh as neither pitcher allowed another runner to reach third.

The bottom of the seventh started off with a walk to Norman Kuhn, followed by a single by pinch-hitter Narahiko Nakamura, sending Kuhn to second.  Raul Ortega then singled, sending Kuhn home and tying up the score with still no one out.  Next up, Terry Hubbard hit a grounder back to Reed, who fumbled the play, loading the bases.

The next batter was Dewey Wilson, who brought in two runs with a single.  After George Hendricks advanced the runner to third on a fielder's choice, Maximo Rodriguez grounded the ball back to Reed who, again, flubbed the play, allowing Hubbard to score.  After that, Reed got the next two hitters out to end the inning, but the damage was done.  The Dragons went down 1-2-3 in both the eighth and ninth to end the game and give Mack another crown.

Congratulations to both Mack and Scott for a well-played series.  We'll give Mack a few days to bask in the glory of his championship and move on next week.

  2. Congrats to Mack, again, and to Scott for a great season.

I can't wait until it's 2027 and Shackamaxon gets back on the postseason horse again.

  3. Congrats to Mack - again - and apologies to the rest of the league for not being able to slay the dragon. But congrats to my London players for a great season and hard-fought playoffs, although we came up a couple of games short.

    Wait 'til next year!

  4. Congrats to Scott on a terrific season for London. That was quite a big jump to make to take his team to the brink of a title.

Mostly though, congratulations to me. Congratulations to the Monarchs players for winning one for the ... uh ... solar plexus? Congratulations to the trophy for staying another year on that shelf in my office. Mostly though, congratulations to the game for recognizing that my ones and zeroes are much better than everyone else's ones and zeroes.

  5. Congrats to Mack and Scott on a great series. Too bad it was defensive blunders that hurt London. I think that next year will be the year of the Hurricanes...I really hope so, the small window is closing quickly.
