  1. My guess without looking is that Tim Vallejo holds the SDMB OOTP record for appearances. He had a few years where I used him as a middle reliever / set up man and he appeared in a lot of games. Whoever it is, it's probably from a season at least 10-15 years ago and it's not going to be someone working as a closer.

As for the NL and AL records, I have no clue. I'd guess the record holders in that category are from before the 1980s though.

  2. My guess for the league is Frank Carroll, who pitched for aeons as an effective late-inning reliever.

  3. Vallejo topped out at 103 appearances in 2008, good for 16th place (we really overwork our relievers). As for Carroll, he does not hold the record for the AL or NL.

  4. Carroll was an OOTP player, Zev. Anyway, I was wrong, as he topped out at 100 appearances in 2008. And, I misread the question and thought it was asking about career appearances, of which he's 6th, all time. (Vallejo is the all-time games appeared leader for pitchers.)

  5. In league news, I just privately emailed five owners with a list of players on their rookie league teams who have 1 or more year(s) of pro service. They need to remove those players from their rookie league teams before that league starts play in a few sims.

  7. You're correct, Fred. Mike Marshall, when with the Dodgers, set the NL and major league records for appearances with 104. Now, who holds the AL record?

    Zev

  8. Argh - I thought I had gotten one of these without having to look it up (sort of). My first thought was "that guy who pitched a ton of games for the Yankees in the early-2000's", which turns out to be Paul Quantrill. But it looks like he and Mark Eichhorn share second place at 89, and first is...also Mike Marshall, with 90 in 1979 for Minnesota. Figures :)
