Brick gains some draft picks

In two separate trades, the Brick Barracudas cleared some salary and roster space and picked up mid-round picks.

First, with the Highland Admirals, the Barracudas traded utility infielder Hector Castillo for a 9th round draft pick. Then, in order to obtain an 8th round pick, they traded reliever Yasushi Mochizuki and outfielder Jeremy McCullough to Shackamaxon.

  1. Never thought I'd see an owner who made a lot more trades than me, but Fred is on point lately.

    1. Ahem. I've done 5 trades this offseason. Three with Fred, one with you, and one with John. Fred has done four, including the three with me.

  2. Yeah, but I expect it out of you, Michael.

Giving it more thought though, maybe I shouldn't count these little intra-family deals as real trades. For all I know, these trades are baby shower presents, or gifts to thank Fred for helping you move, or who knows what. Families can be weird. Or at least, mine is. (laugh)

    1. I won't talk about earlier deals, but all three of the OOTP 17 trades are "legit", and no different than a trade I would make with any other owner:

      1. Mejia for Powell: Negotiated at the same time as our huge blockbuster, this was borne out of the failed talks for one of Brick's superstars. Dozens of messages between Fred and myself led to this trade.

      2. 3 pitching prospects for Alvarez: Alvarez was a part of the same superstar trade discussion, and since I have a glut in my IF, I was willing to unload Alvarez. Once Fred switched scouts, he was willing to trade the three prospects for Alvarez.

      3. McCullough and Mochizuki for draft pick: Fred emailed me yesterday morning saying he's thinking of trading the pair for a draft pick, presumably to clear the roster space. I replied offering an 8th round pick. He said ok. Deal done.

So, unlike some trades in the past, there were was no "family business" in these deals. Just two hyper-competitive owners trying to make their teams better

I think Fred is saving his top prospects and draft picks for the baby shower. :)

    2. Didn't mean to imply anything was amiss about the trades, Michael. My apologies if I wasn't clear. If it came across that way, that's on me.

    3. No worries, Mack. Fred and I are in constant contact with trade and other game-related talk. Occasionally we do a frivolous trade, and other times it's much more serious.

  3. I am trying to fix my minor league system...after firing my head scout and 4 other personnel ..it changed the way i saw my prospects so with the new scout in place i am trying to get as many picks as possible to restock with higher prospects...so i am not done trading
