Sim run

It's now 12/1/2015, and today's the day of the Rule 5 draft.

That sim, along with advancing the game to 12/15, and possibly moving to our new three-division league (with feeder leagues!), will be on Wednesday night.

Until then, don't forget to overpay for your relief pitchers, and to tip your waitresses.

Upcoming schedule

Due to Passover, Zev's going to have me get us ready for the Rule 5 draft. Here's the plan:

1. The Rule 5 draft will be held on Wednesday night (31 March 2010 -- real world time, 1 December 2015 -- game time).

2. Tomorrow night, or Tuesday morning, depending on when I get home from my seder, I will run a sim that takes us to the morning of the Rule 5 draft.

3. LOCK YOUR 40-MAN ROSTERS BEFORE THIS SIM!!!

4. When the Rule 5 draft is held on Wednesday night, only teams with openings in their 40-man rosters can make a pick. To recap, any selections you make in the draft will have to remain on your 25-man major league roster all throughout the 2016 season.

5. The draft is held entirely within the game. So, after the Monday night/Tuesday morning sim, the 40-man rosters will be locked and you can make selections.

6. Wednesday's sim will take us to 12/15, and Thursday's to 1/1/2016. One of those sims will unveil the new three-divisions league, as well as feeder leagues. Zev will handle that.

Any questions?

Free agency frenzy begins!

League date: 11/25/2015

No news from this sim, except that free agency is now open. Go and overpay, everyone!

Next sim? Monday night.

Hickory Manager Fired, Will Not Be Missed

The Hickory Huskers bid farewell to Todd Lee today, after the 47-year-old manager’s first and only year at the helm. The move reportedly shocked 94-year-old Florida resident Charlotte Patricia Lee-Simmons, the outgoing manager’s grandmother; an informal poll of every other Hickory fan, player, staff member, and observer revealed a universal lack of surprise or dismay at the move.

“This is the moment where we typically would thank Todd for his dedicated service, and wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Husker GM Frank Ferrara at the combination press conference / celebratory barbeque. “But we actually sort of hope he does poorly in the future. He took a franchise that made the playoffs a year ago and transformed it into a 100-loss team. Quite frankly, I hope a bird craps on his head while he’s walking to his car.”

Lee was signed to a lucrative contract prior to the 2015 season, after veteran manager Jason Mitchell signed a lucrative contract of his own to be the bench coach in Seattle. He then presided over a season in which most of Hickory’s top players and prospects simultaneously had career-worst campaigns, and the team and franchise as a whole cratered in a way typically unknown outside of Queens. He departs with two years and more than $1M remaining on his contract. “And that doesn’t even count the amount that will be required to hire a Shaman to lift the curse on the manager’s office and the amount needed to salt the earth on which Todd walked,” noted Ferrara.

Lee himself was sanguine. In a prepared statement, he said, “I am sorry to leave Hickory, where I have developed some excellent relationships. I will always remember my time in Nebraska with great fondness.” Lee was then informed that the Huskers actually play in North Carolina, at which point he had to be sedated and was loaded into an unmarked black van.

Lee will be replaced by 51-year-old first-time manager Chris Thomas.

Sim run

Welcome to November. All the awards were handed out in the last sim. I'm too tired to dig them up and paste them here, but I didn't see any major surprises among the winners.

Oh, a couple of teams had players whose DFA time ran out during the sim, but I was able to put all of them in AAA. I think there was one player for Saskatoon who had to go on the 40-man roster, too.

The league file is up. Zev's got the next two weeks on Saturday night.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

My apologies everyone. Yes, the sim was done on Sunday and the league pages were updated Monday morning.... and then I forgot to post about it. :(

The sim schedule for next week will be as follows:

Wednesday night 2 weeks
Thursday night 2 weeks
Saturday night 2 weeks

Moving On...

I'm still working on the expansion, but there's no reason we can't move on even if I'm not done with that.

So, that being said, I'll run the next sim on Sunday. It'll cover the first week of the offseason. At that point I'll also update the league pages.

Minor Note on Realignment

As it turns out, you can't change the number of leagues once you start -- so we're stuck with two leagues.

That being said, what I'll probably end up doing is folding everyone into the Adams League and making three divisions out of it. The Zotti League will just end up being an empty league.

Assuming that works, and if possible, I'll combine the league records (i.e. All Time Single Season Leaders) for the Zotti League with those of the Adams League.

Any objections?

Schedules & Reliagnment & Feeder Leagues

What do you mean it's not Saturday anymore?

Anyway, as per Mack's counting, the votes on Scheduling and Realignment were:

Balancing schedules: 8-0
Interleague Play: 6 (full interleague), 3 (limited interleague play)
Realignment: 7 in favor, 3 opposed.

My vote would have been against realignment but in favor of interleague play. However, that's not going to tip the balance in any way.

In any event, going to three leagues will require that we go to interleague play as well (unless you want to play the same three teams over and over again as we did the first two seasons of our league).

Since it seems that three leagues is the wave of the future, I'm open to suggestions on the name of the third league as well as how the existing 12 teams should be re-aligned. Feel free to chime in with suggestions.

Lastly, it seems that feeder leagues are a popular idea. I'm going to have to do some testing to determine how many teams there should be in the feeder league.

Onward...soon

OK, I think we've let Eric bask in the glory of his victory long enough.

I'm a little short on time at the moment, but by Saturday night, I'll have a post to conclude the realignment discussion and we'll move forward.

League Finances - Raw Data

With the end of the Cecil Cup (congrats, Eric) and the start of the offseason, the game has given everyone new budgets and, for those whose media contracts expired, new media contracts.

I know we're going to be discussing the league finances. Here is some raw data I put together this morning that may help us discuss the finances issue:

The columns are largely self-explanatory. The last two are some comparisons. The first column compares the 2016 budget given by the game with the club's 2015 revenue. Negative numbers mean the 2016 budget is higher by that amount than the 2015 revenue. The last column "corrects" that figure by taking into account any changes (all increases) in the club's media revenue between 2015 and 2016.
