Favorite Toy Calculator

A few years ago, I posted some projections using the Favorite Toy projections. Favorite Toy is a tool devised by Bill James to try to calculate the chances that a player will reach a certain counting stat during the course of his career.

An owner requested that I make the spreadsheet for calculating this available online. As such, there is a link in the Links section that leads to the Favorite Toy calculator.

To use the calculator, all you have to do is fill in the cells highlighted in yellow.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Unavailable this weekend

FYI: I'm moving this weekend (and, no, I'm not changing my team's name again this time!) so I won't be able to do any league-related activities (run the sim if Zev can't, or engage in serious trade talk) until I get back online, which I'm hoping to do by Sunday afternoon.

Minor Seattle/Maui trade

In a trade barely worthy of mention, the Maui Mashers acquired AAA MR Robert Holland from the Seattle Monarchs in exchange for Maui's 6th round pick in next year's amateur draft.

Seattle - Maui Trade

Maui Mashers GM Matt Macario responded quickly to the tragic career-ending injury of 5* catcher Gene Zwick today by announcing the acquisition of AAA catching prospect Richard Heitz from a former division rival, the Seattle Monarchs.

"It's tough to replace a guy like Gene," Macario sighed, "but we like this new kid. He's been toiling away in AAA in Seattle, because let's face it, that organization has more depth than it knows what to do with. We are going to give him an opportunity to play every day in the majors."

In return for Heitz, Seattle will receive Maui's 3rd round pick in the next amateur draft.

May I Done

Sim's done. Game date: 5/15/2016.

Who uploaded?

Hickory
Los Angeles
Maui
New York
Ohio
River Cities
Saskatoon
Seattle

Standings?

Adams -- Cleveland and Hickory tied for the lead
Zotti -- Ohio is two games up on Saskatoon and Seattle
Signorino -- Maui has a seven game lead over New York

Injuries?

Maui needs a new catcher as Gene Zwick fractured his knee and is out for good.

Interesting games?

Maui and Brooklyn fought a seventeen inning duel on 5/6. Brooklyn had a 4-0 going into the bottom of the ninth as starter David Reimers threw eight shutout innings. Alas, the bullpen (one of the strengths of the Brooklyn team) could not hold it together in the ninth.

Robert Riddick started the inning for the Wolves and quickly got two outs. Down to their last batter, however, the Mashers did not give up. A single by former Wolf John Hodge was followed by a RBI double by the now-injured-and-soon-to-be-retired Gene Zwick. After Vernon Cipriani came in to pitch, Robert Estill followed with an RBI single and then Dong Lutz sent a ball over the left field wall to tie the game at 4-4.

Both teams traded a pair of runs in the 11th. Brooklyn got two on the board from a Ronald Chambers single. Maui got its pair from a triple off the bat of 3B Octavio Cabrales.

Maui threatened in the bottom of the 16th when they loaded the bases with no one out. However, they failed to score when Cabrales swung at a 3-0 pitch (after the previous two batters walked!!) and grounded into a 4-2-3 double play. No Neck Natsu then popped out to end the inning.

Given another chance, the Wolves made the most of it. In the top of the 17th, they led off with a single by 3B Bruce Parker. He was then brought home by a Bruce Manning triple. In the bottom of the inning, Maui managed a double by RF John Custard, but that was about it.

Time of Game: 5:07
Bruce Parker went 5-for-8. Bruce Manning missed the cycle by a double.

Next sim? Next Saturday night.

Important: I screwed up

I forgot that we sim two halves to a month, and not two weeks at a time, so the sim I ran on Saturday night should have been until 5/1, instead of 4/29. The missing two days will be simmed on the front half of the next sim on Saturday, so we'll be up to 5/15 after it.

Please make sure your DFA and injury lists reflect this new schedule.

Thanks,

-- Michael "This is why I'm only the junior commissioner" Weintraub
