May II Sim Done

My apologies, everyone.  The sim *was* run last night, but I've been so slammed at work, I haven't had the opportunity to write a summary (hint:  if someone else wants to do it, I won't object).  The league reports on the website have been updated.

Next sim:  Wednesday night

My apologies, everyone.  Real life caught up with me last night.

We'll try again for this week's sim tonight.

Trade: Seattle and Ohio

It was a trade of excesses between Seattle GM Mack Shultz and Ohio GM Brian Hockin. Ohio had too many catchers, and Seattle just had too many...players.

Going east to Ohio are AA pitchers Lan-quing Shu and Armando Sosa, and going back to the great northwest is C Mark Porter, who grew up in Beaverton, Oregon.

The trade frees up a couple of crucial spots on the 40 man roster for the Monarchs, while giving the Buckeyes some depth in an otherwise shallow organization.

Ohio is still shopping for infield help and has some money to burn, so this may not be the last that you hear from them.

AV Shopping Veteran 3B Bruce Parker

Anyone interested in adding a veteran left handed batting 3B?  It looks like Parker has at least one more good year in him, platooning at least.  So far he has 5 HRs in only 100 ABs with a .247 average.  There is a team option for next year that you don't want to pay, so probably a 1 yr rental.  Not looking for too much, mid level prospect or draft pick.  Still plays a decent 3rd, but can also play 1st or even SS in a pinch.

May I Sim Done

Game Date:  May 16, 2024

Standings:
Adams:  Brooklyn leads Hickory and Atlanta by four games.
Zotti:  Shackamaxon has a one game lead on Seattle.
Signorino:  Maui leads Houston by a single game.

Awards & Accomplishments:
  • Houston 3B Andres Velasco named Player of the Week (5/6)
  • Shackamaxon CF Steve Keo named Player of the Week (5/13)

Milestones:
  • Brooklyn's Kevin Kepner pitched a no hitter against Antelope Valley on 5/7.  This is the first no hitter since August 2021 and the first no hitter for Brooklyn since John Okane pitched one in 2017.
  • Brick Raul Ortega passed 1000 runs scored (5/13).

Significant Injuries:
  • It was a bad sim for Antelope Valley as they lost three players to injuries.  They'll be without 1B Carlos Fernandez for 3-4 months (ruptured finger tendon),  P Armando Sanchez for 4 months (torn labrum) and CF Petero Hokualohi (back soreness) for five weeks.
  • Seattle's star catcher Steve Jones pinched a nerve in his neck when his car spun out of control.  He'll miss about a month.
  • Maui Masher Matt McDonald (say that five times fast) has shoulder inflammation and will miss about four months.
  • Hickory 3B Esteban Ordonez will be out for the remainder of the year and may not be available to start the 2025 season as he will need ten months to recover from a torn posterior cruciate ligament.
  • Ohio 2B Roberto Ferrer will miss three months with a partially torn labrum.

Next sim:  Next Wednesday.

Help Wanted: Starting Pitching Needed

Hickory urgently needs starting pitching, before the owner/general manager strangles Donald Hunnicutt or Danny Andrews and gets 20 years in Sing Sing.  Looking for a first-tier starter of any age, or a second-tier starter under 30; the entire Hickory suite of prospects and picks is available (either of major league second basemen Bill O'Neill and Pedro Campos, both talented young players, are available as the starting point for any deal).

I am readily available at ferrarafc@comcast.net if you're interested.

Trading Block: Ohio

The Buckeyes still have a dearth of depth, but are top-heavy in quality catching prospects:

Guillermo Medina (#39 prospect)

Jean-Charles Gauthier (#49 prospect)

Mark Porter (#90 prospect)

My perfect trade would be prospect-for-prospect, so if you have an overabundance of infield talent and are lacking catchers, I'm all ears. Since those can be hard to pull of, I would also consider a package of a young-ish, controllable 3B and backend starter/bullpen help, since those are my immediate needs.

And since I'm sure someone will ask, Fred Kennedy (#2 prospect) isn't on the table unless you blow me away.
