Last Sim's Trivia Question:

This week, the baseball world lost Don Newcombe, one of the few pitchers to win the Cy Young and MVP awards in the same season.  That season, 1956, he won 27 games.

Due to changes in the way the game is played, it is very rare for pitchers to win more than 25 games in a season.  In fact, the last to do so was Bob Welch, almost thirty years ago.  Who knows when we'll see another 25 game winner?  This, quite literally, makes 25 game winners a dying breed.

Which leads to the question: with the passing of Don Newcombe, how many living 25+ game winners are left?  And, of course, who are they?

There are 11 living 25 game winners.  Seven of them were identified in the #random channel on Slack.  They were:

Steve Carlton
Ron Guidry
Sandy Koufax
Denny McLain
Mickey Lolich
Whitey Ford
Steve Stone

The four that were not guessed are:

Fergie Jenkins (25 wins in 1974)
Jim Kaat (25 in 1966)
Juan Marichal (25 in 1963 and 1966 and 26 in 1968)
Tom Seaver (25 in 1969)

This Sim's Trivia Question:

There are a number of people whose uniform number is retired on two teams.  However, there are two people who have their number retired by three teams (not counting Jackie Robinson, of course, whose number is retired league wide).  Who are these two people and what are the teams/numbers?

First correct answer in the #random channel on Slack gets 83 Commissioner Points.

Last Sim's Trivia Question:

While it is true that no pitcher has pitched more than one perfect game, there are position players who have played in more than one perfect game.  In fact, there are six players who have played in three perfect games.  Who are they, and which perfect games did they participate in?

Fred correctly came up with Paul O'Neill, who was in the Browning, Wells and Cone games.
Michael correctly came up with the quartet of Rays who were on the losing side of three perfect games:  Evan Longoria, Ben Zobrist, Carlos Pena and Melvin Upton, who were in the Buerhle, Braden and Fernandez games.

The unguessed person (who was the first person to participate in three perfect games) was Alfredo Griffin, who like the Rays quartet, was on the losing side of all three games he participated in:  Barker, Browning and Martinez.

The other two players were CF Johnny Groth (92 years old), Browns 1953 and KC 1956-57 and INF Billy Hunter (90 years old), Browns 1953 and KC 1958.
