  1. Anybody besides me look at that Texas-Baltimore box score from yesterday and think it looked like a wacky OOTP Sim result?

  2. That was a bizarre, bizarre game.

But, to turn this back to things that are more important, the Monarchs have now built a two-game lead, creeping away from those Saskatoonies. It is a little disheartening to go 30-8 over the last three sims and only gain three games on them though.

I'd also like to crow about the fact that my pitching staff gave up a total of 15 runs in the last sim's 10-2 streak. Pretty sweet and I'm only one run allowed behind Nate, even after that insanely hot start his team had. I knew this pitching staff would turn around, but they're throwing lately even better than I thought they would.

  3. And does ANYONE believe there can be any other Pitcher of the Year winner than Juan Villatoro?

I hope you like facing him three times in the playoffs, Mack!

  4. Pshht. Anyone could post those numbers against that collection of has-beens and never-weres that makes up the Zotti League. Doesn't make him special.

  5. Once again, I'll whine that Junior Cuomo won't get any awards love this offseason. Just look at the box score from this game, one I missed earlier this season. Eight perfect innings of relief, with 14 strikeouts. His game score was the highest this season until Villatoro had that two hitter a few weeks ago.

Still, eight perfect innings. In relief! He's the man!

BTW, my top five relievers (closer, setup, and two middle relievers) all have ERAs under 3.00 (Cuomo, Cowherd, Carroll, Hamilton, and Augustin). If I had more than two reliable starters and if River Cities played a little like they were mortal, I would be in much better shape.

  6. Oh, and Mack? Go look at that shiny trophy in your office. Count the number of times your name doesn't appear because one of the wimpy Zotti League teams won.

Also: And Nate? You have my permission to spank him like the Adams league wuss he is in the Cup this year. Maybe I predicted the wrong team would "Recapture the Glory" this season. Release the hounds.

  7. We can all see the 'Mack's hitting vs Nate's pitching' clash coming, can't we? In a seven game set he'll be facing these three:

    Villatoro 21-1 1.94 WHIP: 0.85
    Okane 17-6 2.27 WHIP: 1.05
    Wheeler 14-9 2.52 WHIP 1.15

    Combined they're 123/538 for a 4.37/1 K/BB ratio.

Combined they're 453/568.7 for a 0.79 hits per inning rate.

And the three of them average 6.69 innings per start. Better be prepared for a lot of comeback wins, Mack.

  8. To be fair, it's not obvious I'll be the Adams representative. Saskatoon is only two games back and they've scored 47 more runs than I have. If there's an offense vs. pitching matchup, it might be Saskatoon that's the better representative.

Of course, my team's going to finish with a better ERA than the River Cities Wannabes, so maybe the real match-up is for the Adams League title. It's amazing the amount of smack being talked by the Eastern Conference. Oops, I meant the Zotti League.

  9. By the way, here's the numbers for my top three:

    Nelligan, 16-5, 2.14, WHIP 0.87
    Hester, 18-6, 2.54, WHIP 1.08
    Frau, 12-5, 3.10, WHIP 1.03

    A combined K:BB ratio of 565/124, or 4.55 to 1.

Hits per innings pitched combined of 467/598.1, or 0.78.

    IP/start of 6.65.

Sorry Nate, but except for ERA, which I think you'll agree is an inherently flawed measure, there's no real difference in quality between our top three starters.

So, that just leaves my offense, which you already admitted was better.
