Name change

Guys,

Effective at the end of the 2018 season, the Los Angeles Scorpions will be no more. The vagabonds formerly known as the Alaska Kodiaks, Stockholm Sluggers, Mighty Manatees of Florida, and Los Angeles Scorpions will relocate to the Philadelphia area and be known as the Shackamaxon Lenape.

"I've been with this team since the glory days in Stockholm," injured star SS Ricky Peppers said. "I look forward to finishing my career with this franchise, no matter where it is."

Jersey City looking to trade

MR Dale Beene - 34 YO, Closing for me right now, 2.83 ERA, 9.25 K/9. Signed through next year at a very cheap $400K/year.

SP Anthony Koepp - 7-7 with a 4.44 ERA. 32 YO, signed through next year at $1.4M. Decent option for the back end of a rotation.

RF Richard Bilbrey - veteran slugger not having a great year, free agent after this year, could help as a starter or as a right handed power bat off the bench.

1B/OF Lonnie Machen - career .314 hitter is tearing it up at .358 this year with a .414 OBP. Signed for two more years for a total of $5.8 million, he's second in the league in both AVG and OBP.

Looking mainly for prospects, young players and picks. Infield help in particular.

Monarchs' Market - Last Chance

I'm heading out on the first half of a sabbatical next week and won't return until after the trade deadline passes. So, I'm setting out my list of available talent now. These are all guys who I think might be able to help fill in a hole or two on your bench or bullpen, not frontline guys. They're priced accordingly. Also, I'm putting approximate draft pick prices on them, because my time for haggling over prospects or other return before I go might be limited.

If any of these guys are of interest to you, let me know sooner rather than later. But, I'm open to any reasonable offer for these guys.

Utility infielder Julian Arenas. Offered for a mid-round pick before the season. Still available. Still can play all four infield positions. But, he's now got a 1.048 OPS in the majors this year under his belt, albeit in only 14 at bats. My scout has him 2*/2*. Available for a seventh-round pick.

Outfielder Lawrence Fenster. He's following up his .879 OPS last year in AAA with a .866 OPS in AAA this year. No room in the Seattle outfield though for him. My scout has him 1.5*/1.5*. Available for a fourth-round pick.

First baseman Mauro Torres. This lefty is putting up a .925 OPS in AAA. My scout has him as a 1.5*/1.5* player. Blocked in the majors again. Available for a fifth-round draft pick.

Outfielder James Thomas. Can play the corner outfield spots. My scout has him as a 74 at home run power and he has backed that up with 14 bombs in 57 games so far at AAA. Hitting .277 too. Available for an eighth-round pick.

Reliever John Burgess. This lefty has put together a 2.74 ERA so far this year in AAA with 24Ks in 23 IP. Last year, he split time between the majors and AAA last year, posting an ERA of 3.81 in Seattle and 2.51 in Tacoma while striking out just about one batter per inning pitched. My scout has him as 1.5*/1.5*. Available for a sixth-round pick.

Reliever Tsumich Yoshida. Has a 2.76 ERA in AAA with 14Ks in 16.1 IP. Still just 22, he has shown that he recovered from the injury that cost him all of 2017. In 2016, he had ERAs of 2.84 in the majors and 3.40 in AAA. Like all the other guys here, his path to the majors is blocked. Available for a fifth-round pick.

Reliever Risto Huhtamo. Has a 1.93 ERA in AAA this year and a career ERA of 2.22 across four minor-league seasons. Just 23. My scout has him as 2*/2*. Available for a fifth-round pick.

Finally, I have excess money that will be burnt up by the cash cap at the end of this season. So, if you have a contract that you would like to jettison, one that will cost me $15M or less to eat, let me know and we may be able to work something out.

The Winds of Change in Cleveland

The experiment in Cleveland might be coming to an end. There are rumors are flying around that the big high priced Free Agents that The Steamers picked up in the off season may be on the way out after just a half a season.

I would write more, but I am busy at work, so if you are interested, please let me know and they might be yours.
