I'd comment, but I'm afraid to jinx anything.
ReplyDeleteAn outstanding 13-2 sim for the Monarchs, led as usual by the pitching. Juan Morales (who I tried to practically give away in a trade earlier in the year) was especially strong, going 3-0 in three starts and yielding just one run in 25 innings pitched.
ReplyDeleteI also continue to be encouraged by Enrico "Palazzo" Hernandez's debut. He was 2-1 in three starts, striking out 18 in 13.1 IP and walking only four. He gave up just two hits and two walks in seven scoreless innings in his most recent last start, despite battling a finger blister that reduced his effectiveness by exactly 13%. (Hey, the game makes up this kind of overly precise crap, not me. I make up different crap.)
The hitting has also held together a lot better than I expected. Gregorio Reyna, who I made room for with an offseason trade, is hitting a very unexpected .357 and leading the league in VORP. After a slow start, veteran starter Brian Frison has come around. And rookie first baseman James Dodd has held his own with a .833 OPS. Even reserve infielder Julian Arenas (who I tried to give away before the season) has put up a 1.048 OPS off the bench.
In all, the season has gone as well as could be expected for the Monarchs. Which may mean the other shoe is about to drop. In that case, forget I said anything.
Hernandez threw 17.1 IP, not 13.1 IP. Not that I expect anyone to notice or care.
