Many thanks to Michael for filling in the last two sims.
A number of people have asked about the Danville opening. Truth to tell, I'm still up in the air about what to do about it. I was considering upgrading to version 12 or 13 of the game after the next season. As such, I wasn't sure that I wanted to convince someone to buy version 9 for only one season.
If you have any suggestions about the Danville opening, feel free to post them in the comments.
Zev
I've shared my opinion on what to do with Danville, privately, with Zev, but here it is for public discussion:
ReplyDeleteI think we should upgrade to OOTP 13 when it is released. The OOTP release schedule seems to coördinate with the MLB season starting, so I expect OOTP 13 to drop sometime around April 2012. We should be winding up the 2020 season around then. I suggest that we agree to upgrade to OOTP 13 for the 2021 season.
Along with that, we should find a new owner who would be willing to either wait for the 2021 season, or to purchase OOTP 9 (if he/she doesn't already have it). If not, a new owner can "advise" the CPU-run via e-mail with Zev and/or myself.
I'm very curious to see, as I've stated, how the season will play out with Danville under CPU control. I see it as a short term experiment, and if we follow the plan I suggest, above, perhaps the new team's owner will get it in better shape than it was when Brent abandoned it.
My primary concern is that OOTP 13 won't be ready when we finish the 2020 season. They've run late at times in releasing the game and it seems to me as though our normal pace might have us finishing the 2020 season before April. Plus, the game has a habit of being a bit buggy at the release of a new version, and I'd rather not have the SDMB league be one of the guinea pigs for working out the kinks. I've always thought the optimum time to upgrade is a few months after release, when a couple patches have come out.
ReplyDeleteAs for what to do on Danville, my preference would be to get a new owner in as soon as possible, but I don't feel really strongly as I don't think the computer is doing any long-term damage. I just regret being short one potential trade partner.
I will say though that it is possible that Danville has signed a few too many catchers to its A-ball team. The computer has a ways to go to catch up to Saskatoon's A-ball pitching staff (pitching mob? pitching congregation?), but it seems to be trying.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they share a spring training complex and Danville is signing all the A-ball catchers needed for Saskatoon's A-ball pitchers.
Mack: You have more experience with new releases of OOTP than I do, so I respect your point.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather not upgrade to an 11-month old OOTP 12 at season's end, when a new release is on the way. I also seem to recall they release a lot of bug fix releases in the early days of a new version's release, so with our weekly sim schedule (during the season), we can work around it.
Chalk up another vote for upgrading to the newest version of the game. This should make it a lot easier to find a replacement owner for Danville and any other team in the future.
ReplyDeleteI'm also not opposed to letting the CPU run Danville's team until we upgrade. It's not an ideal situation, but it may be the best one under the circumstances. Unless one of us knows someone willing to take over the team who already has version 9.
