Next Sim: Next Saturday night
Good news: Ricky Peppers is once again with his home franchise after his ring-seeking expedition to Seattle late last season.
ReplyDeleteHe signed a minor league contract with Shackamaxon and will DH for AAA Arizona Bay. With two injuries to my shortstops, he may yet get a taste of the Show once again.
Bad news: John Grondin and Joseph Macaluso, my top hitter and starter, are off to bad starts. Hopefully they'll correct themselves in this forthcoming sim.
I have to say this is unexpected to be 6-8 after the first sim. I am sure I will regress to where I should be soon enough just give it time.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pleasant surprise and pretty much because of my improved pitching staff. I have improved my ERA by 2 runs so far which is amazing. I have the #3 pitching staff in the league which I never expected and I know it is going to get worse, but I might as well enjoy it while it is here. So the secret is 4 new SP and you too can be as good as Atlanta is.
Other than some disappointing performances in the minors, the first sim went swimmingly for the Seattle Monarchs.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing Ronald Placencia bounce back at age 38 from a torn labrum and throw a complete game shutout in his first start of the season. What an amazing career he's had.
Well, I knew the Hickory pitching staff was going to be a bit cobbled together, and so far new acquisitions Kieran Dickson and Jesus Garcia haven't disappointed - each with an ERA over 6.00. But Tuan Olmstead has pitched well. It's just that Richard Shipp, the Huskers all-time leader in wins by a pitcher (how sad is that?), could not look more done. Through three starts, Shipp is on pace to walk 220 players and give up 46 home runs. He's only 34, but in the last four full seasons has dropped from 107 to 99 to 90 to 72. I don't think he's going to last much longer.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Jesus Flores, my first baseman who last season hit .292/.392/.576, is currently at .109/.219/.164. So that probably won't continue.
All in all, I'll take 7-7 as a positive sign to start the year. And Aaron Hampton, the catching prospect who pushed Alberto Granado to the bench is off to a .392/.446/.647 start in his rookie season, so there's hope for the future.
