Topic for Discussion:
The league currently inducts players to the Hall of Fame based on statistical criteria. Those criteria are:
- 3000 hits
- 500 home runs
- .300 batting average (min 2000 hits)
- 750 VORP
- 300 Wins
- 500 Saves
- 3.50 ERA (min 200 wins).
Current or recent retired players who will be inducted upon retirement based on these criteria are:
- Luis Jeon
- Dong Lutz
- John Hukill
- Junior Cuomo
- Monte Goss*
- Gregorio Marzanno*
- Herman Gossard
- Juan Villatoro*
- Christopher Hester*
- Ronald Placencia*
(* Could lost automatic induction if AVG falls or ERA rises).
Does anyone want to consider adding an election by owners? Or is everyone happy with the automatic selection method?
Next sim: *Thursday* night. This is the trading deadline.
Speaking for myself, I'd prefer to eliminate the automatic selections and do HoF election entirely by owner vote. Isn't arguing over that stuff half the fun of baseball, whether involving carbon- or pixel-based players?
ReplyDeleteThe system could be fairly simple; a player must be nominated and the nomination seconded to get on the ballot. Then, after a period of discussion, every owner votes up or down on each player on the ballot. Get 8 out of 12 votes, you're in.
I would prefer either automatic induction supplemented by owner votes or induction purely through owner votes. But there ought to be some mechanism for inducting people who should be in, but don't meet the game's arbitrary numbers.
ReplyDeleteI also would suggest that the vote be something like 2/3 of the voting owners, with a minimum of 50% of the owners voting for the vote to be valid. I don't think we should have a system that forces people to harass their fellow owners into voting on the Hall of Fame, or penalizes worthy candidates because a few owners aren't paying attention..
I like the idea of having an owner vote to supplement the game's automatic selection criteria.
