The reason i think we have no closers in the discussion for the HOF ..I saw no statistics involving the save among the criteria for the HOF. Unless i missed it on the blog you posted..that might bring some closers into the discussion...Did i see it right or did i miss it some where

ReplyDeleteThe metric that I used in my analysis, the HOF Standard (as devised by Bill James) does not consider relievers. That doesn't mean that James doesn't believe that relievers don't belong in the Hall -- it's just that that particular tool, when measuring pitching, was geared towards starters since, in real life, for the majority of the history of baseball, a relief pitcher was basically a washed up starter.
