Windows 10 Upgrade

Just a word of warning to any non-Mac users who might be planning to upgrade to Windows 10.  Yesterday I updated my desktop computer to Windows 10, and today, I was unable to load OOTP.  Instead, it prompted me to enter a license key, as if I was loading the game for the first time.  I tried entering my license key, but since I've already used the key twice (to activate my desktop computer and my laptop), entering the license key again did not work.  After going to the OOTP message board, I learned that apparently I should have deactivated my license first, before upgrading to 10.  Details are here.

That post is in the OOTP 16 forum, but based on my experience, it looks like something similar may be required with version 15.  I'm still able to access the game via my laptop, but unless I can figure out a solution, it looks like I won't be able to use my desktop unless I purchase a new license.

  1. Thanks for the warning, Matt. I never would have thought to deactivate my license first.

  2. I updated my laptop to Win 10, and then loaded OOTP through Steam. I hadn't had OOTP loaded previously on the laptop, so that may be why it worked for me. But Steam never asked me for a key, or anything.

  3. Hi Bill,

The warning at the OOTP forum says the advance de-licensing is only necessary if you purchased your license through the OOTP webstore (i.e., through the game). Purchases through Steam or AppStore should be unaffected.
