  1. Hi, Michael! Great show. Long time listener, first time caller.

Hey, is there a roster restriction rule for the minor leagues? Asking for a friend because I haven't seen much on the blog about it.

  2. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I see teams with overfull minor league teams who will have to release dozens of players in order to meet the limits.

And, Zev and I are still trying to determine how to enforce the rookie league roster limit. Remember, it's supposed to be for newly-drafted players, undrafted free agent signings, and promotions from the international complex teams.

  3. Agreed. Maybe they're just procrastinators though.

Looking at my rookie team, I have a couple of players I signed who I thought were undrafted free agents, based on their age (20 and 21), but who I now see had a year or two of A ball with someone else before being released.

If the player is age 21 or under, can they stay in Rookie ball or do I need to move them to A? Happy to handle it however you want.

  4. I know I'm waiting to do my final cuts after all of the spring training games are done, as I don't want an injury to create a hole in my depth charts.

As for the rookie league, technically it's for players with 0 years of professional experience (be they 18, 22, or 29 years old). That's what we voted for. But, and I wish Zev would chime in on this, it's going to be hard for us to enforce it. The easy thing to do is just age-limit it (21? 22?) and let that and the 35-man limit handle things.

  5. I think we ought to be able to abide by the honor code on this, or at least try. I'll just promote those two guys. (Well, might cut them actually.)

  6. Ah, yeah - looks like I need to move a couple of guys back to A ball.
