The Brick Barracudas drew first blood in the 2030 Cecil Cup with a 5-4 victory over the Maui Mashers.
Maui got the first run on the board with a solo home run by Antonio Venet, but Brick responded with three in the bottom of the frame with back to back homers by Martin Cox (2 runs) and Salvador Velasquez. Brick added two more in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Velasquez and another one by Fred Kennedy.
Brick would not score again, but they would manage to hold on despite two more runs in the fifth and another solo home run by Venet in the sixth. Maui had a shot to score with runners on first and third with no one out in the seventh, but could not score against Jake Glenn.
Game 2: Thursday night.
