Awards and Accomplishments:

Pitching Line of the Sim:
Lawrence Floyd:  9 shutout innings, one hit, two walks, 7K.

Season oddity:

So far this season, three shutout one-hitters have been pitched -- and it's still only April.
Lawrence Floyd pitched his on 4/22.  On 4/14, two pitchers did it:
Brick's Jose Aquino who allowed a single in the third
Philadelphia's Chris Williams who had a perfect game going until two out in the seventh when he gave up a double to Roy Nickerson.

Last Sim's Trivia Question:

Who are the only three players to be All Stars every season they played in MLB?

The answers are Joe Dimaggio (13 seasons), Gleyber Torres (2 seasons) and Pete Alonso (one season).  Of course, the latter two are subject to change as time goes on.

This sim's Trivia Question:

In the decade of 2000-2009, Andy Pettitte had the most wins 148.  In second place was Randy Johnson, who had 143 -- only five behind Pettitte.  Five wins, however, is hardly the highest margin for having the most wins in the decade.  There were two times in the deadball era when the margin was 57 games -- the 1870s (Al Spalding 252, Tommy Bond 195) and the 1910s (Walter Johnson 265, Grover Cleveland Alexander 208).  But the game was played much differently in the deadball era, so let's exclude those totals.

Starting with the liveball era (1920 and onward), who led the majors in wins for a decade had the biggest lead over the next pitcher?   60 Commissioner Points for the right answer in the #random channel on Slack.

Sim 3 is done! Important note about OOTP 21 patch!

Game Date: March 24, 2036

Important! There is a new patch for OOTP 21 (21.2.38) that must be installed to use the latest league file from tonight's sim. Please download the patch from here and install it before the next sim on Wednesday.

Also! We're on StatsPlus! We're testing it for now, and I paid the $15 for it, so please log in and start using it.

Next Sim: Wednesday night.

Saturday, March 21, 2020

Welcome to the New World!

Game Date: March 3, 2036 - we are at the start of Spring Training

OOTP version: 21!

League changes:

We have turned on the following options in the game with this upgrade to OOTP 21:

  • Allow trading of injured (>7 days) players
    • In the past, we had allowed it with acknowledgment, but since the game now supports submitting trades in uploads, we enabled this feature.
  • Allow Contract Opt-Outs
    • This will allow you to offer a player a contract with an opt out anywhere in the contract, adding an additional player option if the player so chooses to opt out.
We're discussing adding Free Agent Compensation over in the #rules channel on Slack, and if there's a strong sentiment for it, we'll add that before the regular season starts. Otherwise, any other rule changes will be made after the 2036 season concludes.

League File:
  • Download the league file here
  • Once you've downloaded it, unzip it.
  • There should be a folder called SDMBOOTP.lg inside.
  • Move that folder (SDMBOOTP.lg) into the saved_games folder in your installation of OOTP 21.
If you're on a Mac, it's a bit tricky because they changed the location of OOTP with version 21. Best bet is to go to the Load Game window, and click Open Folder to show the saved games directory. A new Finder window will open, showing the saved_games folder. Move SDMBOOTP.lg into that folder.

DM me on Slack or email me if you need help.

Trades

The game now supports submitting trades in your regular team upload. Once you've negotiated your trade with another owner, you each will submit the trade:
  • In the transactions screen, click on Player Trade
  • Under Initiate Trade, choose the team you are trading with in the right column, under "Select the Second Team"
  • Drag-and-drop the players on your side to the "Your Team Offered Players" and the players on the other team that's part of the deal to the "Other Team Offered Players"
  • Add Draft Picks (don't worry too much about the # in round; we're tracking that separately), Cash, or Retain salary for each player, whatever you agreed to with the other owner. Be sure to do that for both sides of the trade
  • Once the trade matches what you both agreed to, click Submit Offer
  • Export your team to the FTP server, and assuming the other owner submitted the same trade, it will be processed by Zev or me when we run the sim
  • Ask any questions in the #tradetalk channel on Slack
Next Sim:

We're giving folks until Wednesday night (March 25) to get the game loaded and submit their first Spring Training upload.

OOTP 21 Upgrade notes:

Our current plan is to upgrade to OOTP 21 at the start of Spring Training.

We expect to arrive at the start of Spring Training at the beginning of next week.  We will be skipping one of the sims this week in order to give Michael time to do some testing with the beta before actually upgrading.  The game itself will be released on Friday and is still available at ootpdevelopments.com for a discount.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

OOTP 21 Reminder

Don’t forget, we are upgrading to OOTP 21 when it is released in a few weeks. It should be right around Opening Day in our league, so please be ready to purchase OOTP 21. You can save $5 by pre-ordering it now.

If you are not planning to upgrade, please let me know. We currently have two openings, so if you know someone planning to buy OOTP 21 who would like to join our league, let Zev or me know.

Last sim's trivia question:

Who are the only two pitchers to have at least two Cy Young Awards, two no-hitters, two World Series championships and two All Star Game appearances?
Jeff came up with one answer, Sandy Koufax.  Fred got the other - Tim Lincecum.

This sim's trivia question:

This week we have two questions -- both dealing with award voting:

1.  Who are the only four people since 1940 to have won an MVP award, but not have a single MVP vote in any other season?

2.  Who is the only player to have Rookie of the Year votes in two different seasons?  (Hint:  He didn't win the award either time.)

Twenty Commissioner points for the correct answers to either question.

Sim 22 Done!

Game Date:  Sep 1 2035

Who uploaded:

Antelope Valley
Appalachian
Brick
Chicago
Houston
Philadelphia

Standings:

Brick, Milwaukee and Philadelphia all have magic numbers of 1.
Wild Card:  New Orleans is three games ahead of Chicago.

Awards & Accomplishments:

Hector Valera (Milwaukee) named Batter of the Month (7th career award)
Erik Moore (Philadelphia) named Pitcher of the Month (3rd career award)
Michael Harrington (Atlanta) named Rookie of the Month.

Last Sim's Trivia Question:

Since 1970, who are the only three players to have more than fifteen wins and fifteen saves in the same season? (Hint: Two of the three did it for the same team (albeit in different years).

Fred came up with one answer -- Mike Marshall of the Dodgers who did it in 1974 (15 W/21 SV).
The other two are Bill Campbell who did it for the Twins in 1976 (17/20) and Tom Johnson who did it for the Twins the very next year (16/15).  Since then, no player has done it.

This sim's question:

Excluding anyone who has played a major league game since 2016, there are only four players who have played in an All Star game despite only having a career that consisted of three seasons.  Who are they?

Commissioner's Note:

It's September.  Time to expand those rosters.

Next Sim:  Sunday night.
