The New Number Five

The Shackamaxon Lenape, still recovering from a long losing streak that put them on the outside of the playoff picture, have decided to make two major roster moves.

Ironman 1B David Seibel suffered the first injury of his career, a potentially season-ending herniated disk. While he is out, and having traded prospect Jaime Alvarez in the last sim, the Lenape are promoting heralded 1B/3B prospect Matt Stokes to man 1B for the rest of the season.

With the team holding an option on Seibel for 2025, this is an important audition for Stokes.

"We don't expect Matt to provide the same level of production that Dave did, at least at first," GM Michael Weintraub explained. "We're happy with the work our utility infielders, Ken Moore and Hernando Albacete, did during the past injury plagues. Now that Hukill and Miguel are back, we've decided to take a look at Stokes to see what he can provide for us."

Also, the team announced a trade for a starting pitcher. The Lenape have acquired swingman Jake Miller from division rivals Ohio Buckeyes in exchange for farmhand Pete O'Bryan, who has excelled in the crowded AAA Arizona Bay outfield this season.

"With all of our top outfield prospects, we just didn't have room for Pete," Weintraub explained. "The four guys we tried in the back of the rotation combined for a 3-10 record with a 6.17 ERA in twenty starts. We hope Miller can provide better than that."

In 12 starts for the Buckeyes this season, Miller has a 4-3 record with a 2.84 ERA.

hi again ...In my continuing  effort to retool i now make Marzano first basemen available for trade ...his power has dropped but his OBP is still 392 ans can provide runs at the number 2 hole in your lineup...I am willing to eat some of his salary for next year...2026 and 2027 have team options for 2 million wont cost much there...So if anyone is interested let me know always looking for draft picks or prospects

July II Sim Done -- Trading Deadline

As usual, I have stopped the July II sim a day earlier, to allow for another week of trading before the trading deadline.

Standings:
Adams:  Brooklyn is five games ahead of Hickory.
Zotti:  Seattle's lead over Shackamaxon stands at eleven games.
Signorino:  Maui has a five game lead over New York.
Wild Card:  Hickory is two games ahead of New York.

Significant Injuries:
Ohio starter Thomas Moore is done for the year with bone chips in his elbow.
Seattle is going to be without Steve "Sinner" Jones for seven weeks.  He's out with a sprained ankle.
Seattle CF Bas Bijkerk will miss three weeks with a strained rib cage muscle.
David Seibel will be absent from the playing field for Shackamaxon.  His herniated disk will sideline him for two months.
Ohio RF Lawrence Gould will be out for three weeks after being hit on the foot by a pitch.
Houston's Nigel Bryant has plantar fascitis and will miss 5-6 weeks.
Brooklyn reliever Juan Diaz's shoulder inflammation will sideline him for the rest of the season.
Seattle LF Jonathan Anderson bruised his wrist.  He's out for 3-4 weeks for the second time this season.
Houston SP Bartolo Olivarez will miss 2-3 months with a torn triceps.

Milestones:
Hickory's George LaBarre slugged his 300th home run.
Maui SP Juan Villatoro becomes the first pitcher in SDMB history to reach the magical 300 win plateau.

Lenape retool for playoff push

In the aftermath of a dreadful sim, which continued a twelve-game losing streak (in the middle of a 17-losses-in-21-games stretch), and ended with the left side of their infield on the disabled list, the Shackamaxon Lenape have made a trade to try to stop the bleeding.

The Lenape traded 1B prospect Jaime Alvarez to the Antelope Valley Raptors in exchange for infielder Hernando Albacete and reliever Adam Hone. Shackamaxon GM Michael Weintraub explained the move, saying "We needed an infielder in the short term, and Albacete will step in and start at the hot corner for us until Hukill recovers. After that, he'll be a key bench bat and glove. Hone will fit right in as a late inning arm for us."

"We didn't want to trade Alvarez," Weintraub continued. "But, with both Matt Stokes and Luis Lozano waiting in the minors, he was expendable."

The Lenape also received the Raptors' second round pick in the 2025 draft.

Valentin Traded, World Barely Notices

Hickory celebrated Paul Shunk's 500th career home run this week by trading for someone to cut into his playing time; in a trade that did not rock the baseball world to its foundations, the Huskers sent a sixth round pick in the upcoming amateur draft to the Brick Barracudas for outfielder Claudio Valentin.    "We needed to deal with Bo Bice getting hurt… again…" said Hickory Owner/GM Frank Ferrara from downtown Hickory, where the populace had somehow managed to avoid rioting over the deal, "and Valentin can catch a baseball at least 80% of the time it's hit directly at him, which is a big improvement over our other options out there."

Following the completion of this deal, cats and dogs did not begin living together, pigs did not fly, and Seattle definitely did not fall out of first place in the Zotti division, because let's not get ridiculous here, people.
