Sim 13: Down to the wire we come!

What a sim! The last playoff spot was determined in the 13th inning of Brooklyn and Saskatoon's fateful final game of the season, and the Zotti League regular season title ... well, you won't believe what's up with that.

In the Adams League, Brooklyn and Saskatoon were tied after 160 and 161 games before meeting one fateful evening in Brooklyn for the right to claim the first Wild Card spot in SDMB OOTP League history. Saskatoon scored two unearned runs in the top of the second to take an early 2-0 lead. Brooklyn scored runs in the bottom of the third and fourth to tie it up at 2.

And there they stayed for eight more innings until the 13th inning came. Saskatoon loaded the bases quickly, with no outs, but Brooklyn defused that threat with a shallow pop-out to right (too shallow to score the runner) and then a back-breaking GIDP by Edward Boothe.

Sensing momentum swing their way, Brooklyn wasted little time ending the game in the bottom of the 13th. A lead-off single, followed by a fielder's choice, and then a walk, brought up center fielder John Jacobs. He looked at two strikes, and then took a ball. The fourth pitch was the fateful one, as the lefty slugged the ball 384 feet in to the right-center field bleachers, as the crowd went wild.

Brooklyn wins its first playoff spot in team history! They'll face perennial powerhouse Seattle, who lost star outfielder Sean Arant to a season-ending injury in this sim, in the first round.

And, in the Zotti League, in a startling turn of events, neither River Cities nor New York could put the other away, so they are, yes, again tied at the end of the sim! Down by one game with one to play, New York beat Cleveland 7-6. Perhaps watching the scoreboard got the best of River Cities, because they lost that evening, at home, to Walla Walla by the same score.

After 162 games, both teams have identical 112-50 records. One more game, a playoff in New York, remains in the 2013 regular season. That game is to determine who gets home field advantage in the first round of the playoff, as both teams had punched their playoff tickets back in mid-July or so.

The league file is up, and the 163rd game of the season will be played on Sunday night (if that's okay with Paul and Nate). Since Zev is in the playoffs, I've got the cockpit from here on out, and game one of the Zotti and Adams league division championships will be simmed on Monday night.

Last Sim of the Season and the Playoffs

I've asked Michael to run the last sim of the season. Since I am in a position to possibly clinch a playoff spot (1 game up with four to play) and Michael isn't, I felt it would be beter if he ran the sim.

Likewise, in the event that I do capture the Adams League wildcard, he will run the first round of the playoffs.

And, assuming that I capture the wildcard and defeat Seattle in the first round*, he will run the Cecil Cup sims as well.

Michael may alter the schedule from Saturday night. If he does, he will post it here.

Don't ask what will be if both Michael and I play against each other for the Cecil Cup... we'll cross the bridge then. :)

* Odds of my beating Seattle in the first round: about the same as the odds of pulling a single blue marble out of a pile of red marbles where the pile is the size of the sun.

Sim 12: Well, at least they're not tied anymore...

Yep, with four games left to play, the Sternwheelers have taken a two game lead in the Zotti League.  Their magic number is now three.

In the Adams League, Brooklyn finally managed to reach the .500 mark since early in the year and they lead the Saskatoon Amigos by one game in the hunt for the Adams League wild card spot.  The Saskatoon Amigos are one back and the Hickory Huskers could theoretically still land a tie for the Wild Card.

Last sim of the regular season will be on Saturday night.

Agh! I now love/hate Saturday!

The new Saturday sims are blessing and curse!

Blessing: I can focus all day on how my boys will do. Will I finally put Paul away? Will he (gulp) put ME away? Worry worry. Twitch twitch.

Curse: I'm doing it where my wife can mock me about it instead of my staff. And I'm not the one who signs her paychecks so I have no way to prevent the mockery.

AGH!!!

You know you've been in this game too long when...

... a fellow player mentions someting about Junior's going to Seattle today and the first thing that comes to your mind is "Junior Coumo."

Sim 11: Did you hear the one about the two teams who were tied all season...

... well they're still at it.  New York and River Cities are still tied with 100 wins each.

Of course, the Adams League title was already decided on April 1.  However, an interesting race is shaping up for the Adams League wild card between the just-sub .500 teams of Brooklyn, Hickroy and Saskatoon, with the Wolves leading the pack by one game.

Next sim on Saturday night.

Problem fixed

OK, the long and the short of it is this:

A while ago Yahoo! sent me an email saying that they were now providing unlimited disk space.  My first thought on this was "Hooray!!"  What I didn't see was that I had to change plans (at the same price) to take advantage of this.  So, if it's the same price, why couldn't they switch me on their own?  Who knows.

In any event, I've now switched plans, I should have unlimited space, and all should be right with the world.  Given the trouble that we had, I'm going to hold off on the sim until tomorrow.  If you haven't sent a manual file to Michael or myself, please upload one to the league site.

I currently have manual uploads from Cleveland, Seattle and Maui.  So, all other owners should upload directly to the league site.

Problems, problems...

I see that people are having problems uploading to the site.  I'm looking into it.

I see that everyone is having problems uploading to the site.  I'm looking into it.

UPDATE:  Despite Yahoo! telling me that I have unlimited disk space, that, apparently, seems not to be the case.  I'm dumping some old stuff now.

Upload error

Just starting a new thread in case Zev or Michael don't see the comments in the Sim #10 thread (which are hidden for some reason). There appears to be a problem uploading to the server. If there is any way to get this fixed before running the next sim, that would be smashing.

Pow!

Apparently my infield is so stunning that everyone is speechless.

Are we going to get a sim over the weekend?

River Cities 2013: The Greatest Infield of All Time?

Gentlemen, I postulate that my infield this season is the single greatest hitting infield in the entire history of the SDMB OOTP League.

Behold their statistical glory:

1B: Gregorio Marzano .321/.408/.502 HR 21
2B: Timothy Palacio .325/.408/.566 HR 24
SS: John Hukill .341/.451/.608 HR 31
3B: Ronald Quijada .302/.423/.497 HR 25

That's an entire infield, all hitting over .300, all with OBP above .400, and the lightest OPS .910, which is MVP level performance. In addition, they have hit 101 home runs between them. That's more HR among the four of them that four other teams have hit as a unit!

And all of that with six weeks left to go. Can I get a magical All-30 HR infield? Only time will tell?
