Yep, with four games left to play, the Sternwheelers have taken a two game lead in the Zotti League. Their magic number is now three.
In the Adams League, Brooklyn finally managed to reach the .500 mark since early in the year and they lead the Saskatoon Amigos by one game in the hunt for the Adams League wild card spot. The Saskatoon Amigos are one back and the Hickory Huskers could theoretically still land a tie for the Wild Card.
Last sim of the regular season will be on Saturday night.

Well, thank God. Now if I can just keep from losing out I should be OK.
ReplyDeleteSorry about Kerry, Mack. You might have lost him for the divisional playoff series. Who'll replace him in the lineup?
Of course, I lost my starting catcher. I'll have to fill that void quickly. Tough to do but fortunately, he's not a key offensive player.
Question: With that 5-0 September could River Cities SP Scull beat out Villatoro for Pitcher of the Year?
Well, since Cedeno is healed, the outfield will be Cedeno, Arant, and Guerrero in one form or another. At least it's nice of the program to start sowing the seeds of my impending, embarassing playoff exit a sim or two early, to give me a chance to savor it.
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad, because Kerry had an oustide shot at the single-season home run record of 54.
And I wouldn't count New York's Frederick Thomas out of the Pitcher of the Year race either. It will be interesting to see how the game factors in wins, ERA, Ks, and VORP in awarding the trophy. Similarly interesting race between Hester and Placencia in the Adams League and, for hitters, between Kerry and Frison.
I just hope Federico Soriano can win the Rookie of the Year award. I think I've only had one player win that for me (Bill Turek, back in '05 or so), which isn't that much of a surprise.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that, Michael. He's good but I think Wooster's 21+ wins and 3-1 K/BB ratio is going to run away with it. I wish it would give us vote totals.
ReplyDeleteThere is not much that has been going well for the Steamers, but one is RF Monte Goss. He is leading the league with a .370 BA and in September he batted .479, yes .479!!!!! If that is not a record, it should be. 45 for 94, with 9 Doubles and 21 runs scored. Not bad for his second year in the league. With him and Pearsall at the top of my lineup if I could just find some people to drive them in or get some of my pitchers to stop other teams from scoring, I might be good some day.
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to generate a 'show all counting stats' function. Like the one in 6.5 that would show the top 25 or so in K and Wins and AVG and such?
ReplyDeleteIf it's there a cursory search doesn't find it.
What I have found for stats...historically if you click on history under the SDMB menu, then click on 'Leaderboards' right above the SDMB League History Index title, and then click on 'season' or 'career' by the stat that they have the record for. You can see the top 100 players for each individual stat, historically that is.
ReplyDeleteFor the current season you can pick 'Statistics' from the SDMB pull down menu and then click on 'Sortable Stats' on the far right and then sort for what stats you want. It is far from perfect or as user friendly as 6.5, but there is some of what used to be there. Defiantly something they need to work on.
It is interesting that Goss, if he does not go 0-fer in the last few games of the season may turn in the highest single season BA of the history of the league. He has an average of .3696 and George Aguinaldo batted .3680 in 2011. Quite a pleasant surprise for me this season.
I also suffered an injury - lost my starting LF Kevin Rubio for 3-4 weeks. He probably is out for the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteI hope Thomas will win the pitching award - but if I were a disinterested party I'd probably vote for Villatoro. Thomas has one more win, but Villatoro has the edge in ERA. Scull is right there too.
I'd say the Zotti League batting award was wrapped up back in June.
Four straight Hitter of the Month awards, baby!
ReplyDeleteSo, essentially, my team started slowly, then ran pole position for a playoff spot for most of the season, led in part by a resurgent season by an aging former superstar at first base. Then, with the prize in sight, a once-reliable bullpen completely collapsed, blowing save after save in the season's final month, leaving the team out of the playoff picture in the end?
ReplyDeleteGood grief. All I need now is that stupid green thing from Philadelphia dancing around in hateful victory, and my crazy manager announcing that Paul Shunk will now be a platoon player, and Hickory's transformation into the 2007-2008 New York Mets will be complete.
