  1. I have to admit that when the season started, I was planning to start Gregory Mudge mostly out of a sense of loyalty and a desire to see a Monarch become the first player to hit 400 home runs and be, at least for a little while, the all-time home run champ. I didn't really expect him to hit all that well. To help his chances out, I platooned him, sitting him against left-handed starters.

But, he's had an amazing year, a throwback to days gone by. Hitting .339 with a .997 OPS has been completely unexpected. He's on pace for 32 home runs, even with limited plate appearances as a platoon starter.

I don't know if he'll keep it up, but what a great year for the 36-year-old. He's now the career leader in home runs, RBI, and total bases, as well as second in hits and fifth in runs scored. Hurray for Mudge!

As for the Monarchs, it was a solid 9-5 sim. A minor injury to Josue Folch will give Rule 5 pick Dennis Pickens a crack at a couple of starts. Tough schedule next sim though with series against Ohio, River Cities, and Cleveland. We'll know more about the Monarchs after this sim.
