Maui Mashers GM Matt Macario responded quickly to the tragic career-ending injury of 5* catcher Gene Zwick today by announcing the acquisition of AAA catching prospect Richard Heitz from a former division rival, the Seattle Monarchs.
"It's tough to replace a guy like Gene," Macario sighed, "but we like this new kid. He's been toiling away in AAA in Seattle, because let's face it, that organization has more depth than it knows what to do with. We are going to give him an opportunity to play every day in the majors."
In return for Heitz, Seattle will receive Maui's 3rd round pick in the next amateur draft.
