Seattle Ships Out Key Starting Pitcher to Danville
The Seattle Monarchs have finally addressed the surplus in starting pitching by sending three players to Danville and getting back ... uh ... the right to get a player in 10 months.
Seattle sent starting pitchers Joseph Macaluso and Jaime Cruz, reliever Daryl "Dopey" Welburn, $7 million in cash, and a fourth-round pick in next March's amateur draft to Danville in exchange for Danville's first-round pick in that draft.
Macaluso, the prime piece of the trade, is 5-1 with a 2.49 ERA and three complete games in six starts this season. He is 97-46 with a 3.66 ERA for his career. He has spent his entire career in the Monarchs organization after being a second-round pick by Seattle in 2008.
Now, Seattle is left hoping that their pitching prospects, who this trade is intended to make room for, are as good as advertised and that the draft class next year is strong.

Opening Day Delayed...
Who knew that the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man would return and that the Ghostbusters would cause him to explode over every park in the league? :)
It's going to take a few days to clean it up. The first sim of the 2018 season will be run Saturday night while the grounds crews are busy cleaning up marshmallow guts.

Ugh...
All -
So I have had the flu since Monday (not a cold that I'm calling a flu, but the actual high-fever, sweating-and-shivering, completely miserable flu). I'm feeling somewhat better today, but am backed up incredibly at work. I am posting to ask if everyone could indulge in just a very brief delay of the Opening Day sim, to give me time to catch up. Even if the delay is just until tomorrow, it would be incredibly helpful.
Massive apologies to everyone.

Need Depth?
I've got some extra depth, with people stacked up at AAA, and wanted to see if anyone would trade a middling to low draft pick to improve their bench.
Infielder Julian Arenas. Arenas can play all four infield positions and has put up OPSs in AAA of .867 and .852 the last two years. Teams could do, and have done, a lot worse as a utility infielder.
Outfielder/first baseman Stephen Jackson. Jackson is a good bat off the bench, especially against right-handed pitchers. His OPSs in AAA the last two years are .885 and .967. He's hit 18 home runs in 552 major league at bats.
Outfielder Lawrence Fenster. Fenster also swings a good stick from the left side of the plate and posted an .879 OPS in AAA last year. He's only 23, so he may have some development left.
Starting pitcher Dennis Pickens. A former Rule 5 pick, Pickens put up a 4.93 ERA in the majors in 2016 and a 13-6 record with a 3.50 ERA in AAA last year. Not a lot of strikeouts, but he doesn't walk people or give up home runs.
Reliever John Burgess. A crafty lefthander. Burgess split time between the majors and AAA last year, posting an ERA of 3.81 in Seattle and 2.51 in Tacoma while striking out just about one batter per inning pitched.
Reliever Tsumich Yoshida. A 22-year-old righthander, Yoshida was hurt pretty much all of last year. In 2016, he had ERAs of 2.84 in the majors and 3.40 in AAA. The two yearsd before that, he had a 2.70 and 4.97 ERA in AAA.
So, if any of these guys can be of use, let me know and we'll work something out.
