OK, so we've had some discussion on the issue of limiting the trading of draft picks.
There was an initial discussion here and then Mack wrote a counter-argument here. I urge you to read both before voting.
The rule we are voting on is a follows:
Teams may not trade their first round draft picks. Players selected in the first round cannot be traded until one year after they are drafted.
Please note that since the 2027-28 offseason has already begun, you may trade first round picks for 2028 (and the players selected with 2028 first round picks) whether or not the rule passes.
Please vote in the comments. Please make sure to vote here, even if you made your position clear in the previous threads.

ReplyDelete*something that I wish I had thought of before was having the top 5 picks be protected, but otherwise allow 1st rounders to be traded.
**I think we all need to encourage new owners not to trade their picks, but I think it's overly restrictive to outright ban it.
I've changed my mind, and have decided to vote no.
ReplyDeleteI will probably be alone in this, but what I would like to see instead is the option for a league veto on trades. It would need to be limited in order to prevent abuse, but I think this would be a more effective means of improving competitive balance than an outright ban on trading first round picks.
I like that idea as well
DeleteI know that we have already had the discussion part of this, and I have been quiet, mainly because real world issues have engulfed my life. One thing everyone needs to realize is that the learning curve for this game is very steep and it is VERY VERY easy for the experienced owner to take advantage of the the inexperienced owner. I know I have done it. I have thrown out a redonkulious trade and the other owner has just said ok because they did not know better or they did not care. In the short term, it was cool for me, in the long term, we get to the situation that we have now.
ReplyDeleteAs I have said in the past, education is always the best way, but we do need some sort of protection for the owner that just does not know better because they do not know what make OOTP tick yet, or worse off, does not care.
OK that is my 2 cents on this issue, I am not for a veto option, I think that can be abused too, but we need to figure out what is the best way to enact some sort of limited draft protection.
I've done a 360° on this (yes-no-yes) and vote yes. The problem, as I see it, is that late round (1st round and early second) are more valuable to Mack than us. Look at his drafts and guys we wouldn't look at twice are now 5* potential for him. Maybe by forcing owners to hang on to their late first rounders, they/I will luck into a "jumped up" player that has more value than whatever deal they've made.
ReplyDeleteThat makes six no votes, which is a majority. The proposal fails to pass.
ReplyDeleteThe next thread for discussing league finances will be posted this evening.
