Happily thinking about Paul Shunk, and his chance to get the MV... oops I mean MOB
I was thinking that I know that other online leagues actually vote manually for end of season honors. I was wondering what other people about doing that in ours? I don't know if it actually does anything as far as player popularity, or future salary demands, but the computer sometimes picks wierd choices and it seems fun. And I figure we all are pretty fair around here and won't simply vote for our guys all the time.
Anyway I'll volunteer to write up a ballot-prospectus of MOB, MOP and Outstanding newcomer for each league's best players if you guys are interested after the regular season(It's not like I have to do a lot of managing in the playoffs :) ), and email it out or post it here.
I'm not quite sure how it works, if there is a management setting. or they simply overwrite the computer's choice afterward,
If you want a secret ballot then I guess we should all send our votes to Zev, or with an open ballot we could all just post here or email.
I also need to look up the official rules for length of previous call-up to be considered a rookie.
(we are still firing people at the Zephyr's offices for nobody noticing for half the year that Shunk was in the majors right after being drafted in 2006)
You guys interested?
ROY voting is pretty much 50IP or 120PA outside of September roster expansion. Gonna be hard to determine that.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise this is a great idea. I vote for an open ballot on the same method as MLB.
Well after doing some research I guess there doesn't actually seem to be a way of doing it. Although I was in a 5 league a long time ago that did. maybe he was hacking the datafiles or something. So it seems a symbolic vote is all we could do :(
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good idea. Can we nominate players, or how would you get your pool of candidates?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good idea to me.
ReplyDeleteHow about a round of nominations where owners can nominate players from OTHER teams. The nominees can then be voted on by all the owners?

I'm on board with the plan. A couple of thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI'm open to doing the traditional MVP / Cy Young / ROY, but I'd prefer to address something not automatically generated by the game. What about doing an All League Team, picking the best at each position, from both the Adams and Zotti Leagues, and including one starting pitcher and one reliever.
An All League Team has the advantage of getting us the equivalent of the Cy Young and Rolaids Reliever of the Year (do they still call it that?), plus allowing us to pick the best at each position.
We could also then add an MVP vote among the players on the All League Team. The MVP could be either a pitcher or a position player, depending on what the vote is.
As for nominations, let's have one or two people be the "Nomination Committee". Everyone can send in their suggestions to the NC, whether the suggested players are on the nominator's own team or another team. The NC then takes the suggestions under advisement and picks three to five people, at the NC's discretion, for each position. Everyone then votes by ranking the nominees and sending a secret ballot email to the NC. The NC then announces the All League Team. There's then a second round of voting, where each owner gets to vote for three players for the MVP award.
We can also work through all of this nominating and voting while the sometimes interminable offseason progresses, as long as it's done before the next season starts.
P.S. If the NC "screws up" and leaves off a deserving player, well that just adds fuel to the fire and sets up a fun debate. It's not like this is life or death. Well, except for Nate and Michael.
P.P.S. We could also go back and do pick All League Teams retrospectively for prior seasons.
I'd also like to add that, using the same process, we should pick a Cecil Cup MVP. It's always bugged me that the game doesn't do that.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to volunteer Nate for the Nominating Committee, since he won't have anything else to do during the playoffs.
