Assistant Commissioner

Mack has written to me twice in the last month or so, correctly (but in a friendly and helpful manner) chiding me for not getting the sims done on time.

It is true that my life has become more hectic over the last year or so, and with added responsibilities on the horizon, I don't honestly see the situation changing all that much. I "sort-of ignored" Mack's first email, kind of hoping that things would change somewhat, but the point has come where I have to face reality -- that reality being that while I love this game and I love running this league, it is not something that I can do alone anymore. Mack has suggested taking on an assistant to help run some of the sims when things are a bit hectic, and it sounds like a good idea.

I don't want to end the league -- as I've said, I'm having too much of a blast doing this (when I get the chance), and I like to think (based on your emails) that you guys are enjoying playing. But it would probably be best for the league if I take on an assistant to help.

That being said, I'm going to ask for volunteers to help with the league. In the end, I will choose one volunteer and ask for ratification of that choice by the other league owners.

So, feel free to volunteer either here or by email - and in addition, as always, feel free to make suggestions that will improve the league.

  1. I support having an assistant commissioner, and suggest having him be from the Zotti League, solely for the sake of balance.

And, if no one in the Zotti League is available or willing, I'd gladly and fairly help out Zev.

  2. I'll be glad to help as well. There's no reason it should be a burden on anyone.

  3. Michael's idea of having it be someone from the Zotti League makes sense. And I'm certainly comfortable with Nate or Michael taking the role, based on their participation in the league since its inception as well as their demonstrated activity. That's not saying that any of the other owners wouldn't do a fine job as well.

And, of course, I support the idea of an assistant commissioner, having proposed the idea to Zev.

  4. I just want to be clear that while the proposal has been made that it should be a ZL owner, AL owners should feel free to volunteer as well.

In the end, I'm going to put my choice up to a league vote anyway.

  5. I think it's a great idea. I'm glad this wasn't a "we're closing the league" post, but a "we're trying to find a way to make the league work" post.

  6. UPDATE: I've also sent my resignation as commissioner of the SDMB Fantasy Baseball League.

    Anyone want the job?

  7. Didn't even know there was one. What's the deal with that?

  8. Last year, about this time, I would have volunteered to help, Zev. But I'm short on time myself. I do, however, think the idea of an assistant commissioner is a top-notch one.

(This is also an apology to all my fellow owners whose trade offers I've failed to respond to this year.)

  9. Unfortunetely due to real life, I havn't really had the time to even be much of a participant lately either.

  10. Might as well throw out that I'd be willing to help as well, though I have no problem going with the Zotti/balance idea, or with any of the other owners taking on the role.

Which fantasy league is that, Zev? Not the old Melting Pot one?
