Contest: Nicknames

This game has some OK nicknames, such as Sabertooth, The Gimp, Terminator and Grandpa, but I think that we could do better. So, here goes:

Come up with a cool nickname for a player under your control. Post it in the comments. Feel free to enter more than once. I will act as judge and pick the best entry. The reward? Well, we'll give the nickname to the player!

Criteria: Names should be clever, cool and witty. Oh yes, and original -- so "Death to Flying Things" is out.

  1. I've been calling my ace closer Junior "Good Night" Cuomo for at least a season or two, now.

What I need is a good nickname for my trio of stud relievers: Cuomo, Carroll, and now Cowherd. The Three Cs just doesn't sound right.

  2. Do Bermanisms count? Like George "Born to Be" Wilde? John "Free" Willer? Greg "Wink Wink Mudge" Mudge?

Also, I assume nicknames that don't fit in the middle are excluded, such as "Hanging" Chad Nelligan.

Hmmm. This is harder than it appears.

  3. Sherman 'Eighteen' Wheeler
    Harold 'Bird' Beeks

  4. Ricky "Red Hot Chili" Peppers.

An alternate nickname contest entry: Ricky "Senor Caliente" Peppers

  5. What about just using "Smoke" for Peppers? It's a shame that a jerk like Tony Stewart uses a nickname with such potential. And it kind of fits with Peppers last name without being too Bermanish.

On an unrelated note, I've really grown to like Greg "Wink Wink Mudge" Mudge. I have a sad, sad sense of humor.

  6. Some more suggestions.

Chad "Nervous" Nelligan. I imagine him as being kind of twitchy out on the mound.

In honor of his proclivity for being hit by pitches, George "Sprawlin'" Rawlins. He's kind of the Biggio of this game. An average of over 20 HPB's per year is pretty high.

  7. Smoke, eh? Hmm...

He does have the power to smoke 40+ balls out of the yard each year. He has the speed to smoke out 40+ steals a year.

Works for me, although my official entry in this contest is still Junior "Good Night" Cuomo.
