Scouts

I received an email from an owner who does not have a scout. In addition, the only scouts in the game don't want to play for his organization.

Since all scouts are created equal (or at least made equal by the "Set All Scouts To Average" button), I'm going to create a new scout for his organization.

However, please note that this really cannot be done for coaches or managers (unless someone wants to come up with a way that's fair).

  1. You mean, I'm not the only one who's money isn't good enough for those schmucks?

  2. Perhaps you shouldn't have called them "schmucks" during your negotiations. I don't know that I'd respond favorably to "Hey, schmuck, take my money and work for me."

Well, I guess it would depend on how much money was being offered. I'd overlook all kinds of insults for the right price.

  3. At the end of the season ytou may want to create 4 addtional for each catagorey. Maybe they will not be so picky with more options to players.

  4. Thanks, Zev.

Like I said in my e-mail, you have to be pretty principled to choose the unemployment line over $370,000 a year - all in the name of working for a "smaller organization."

  5. Oh, let's be realistic. I think we all know "smaller organization" is a euphemism, Trevor.

  6. Michael and I have kicked around a theory that coaches wanting 'smaller organizations' and such are an intentional insertion into the game as a balancing factor to point better coaches, at least a little, towards the less successful teams.

Not a lot of data yet but merely some hypothesizing.

  7. One feature I'd love for the game is to allow you to retire a player and promote him as a coach.

For example, I'd do that with Troy Nelson this season, he'd make a great pitching coach, and I really only resigned him for this season out of sentimental reasons. I'd hate for him to retire with another franchise, like he almost did when he signed with New York two winters ago.

Or, wait, am I posting this in the "You know you've played this game too much" thread?

  8. Instead of creating a new scout, I just changed one of the scout's motivations.
