Day 1; The Coaches Clean Up

As commissioner, I will give my professional opinion on coach signings in this game: it has gone nuts!! I suppose we'll find out how well spent Los Angeles' $15 million per year is...

Here are today's coach signings:

Brooklyn: Minors Manager Sean Coursey, $550,000 per year, for 3 years.
Brooklyn: Hitting Coach Mitchell Pleasant, $600,000 per year, for 3 years.
Denver: Scout Darren Simpson, $360,000 per year, for 3 years.
Hickory: Pitching Coach Richard Limones, $900,000 per year, for 3 years.
Los Angeles: Pitching Coach Samuel Dibble, $5,000,000 per year, for 5 years.
Los Angeles: Minors Manager George Feldman, $3,000,000 per year, for 3 years.
Los Angeles: Minors Manager Keith Bickel, $4,000,000 per year, for 3 years.
Los Angeles: Minors Manager Roger Ku, $3,000,000 per year, for 3 years.
Saskatoon: Minors Manager Daniel Reedy, $700,000 per year, for 2 years.
Saskatoon: Hitting Coach Oscar Vandenbosch, $1,200,000 per year, for 3 years.
Seattle: Hitting Coach William Kroeker, $2,250,000 per year, for 5 years.

Day 2 bids are due by Monday Night

  1. Wow, i was waaaaaaaaaaay out of the ballpark (low bids) with my coaching offers. I couldn't see what coaches on other teams were being paid, so my only indication of how much to offer was how much my own current coaches were being paid. George Feldman must have laughed at my offer to coach my AA team.

Well, at least i now know what sort of market we're in. Be prepared for stiffer competition.

  2. Oops. :)

I think that the coaching offer system is really fucked up, but I know that we have to play within these limitations. I had the money to spend, and hopefully I spent it wisely.

  3. Don't feel bad, Michael. I was shocked by LA's offers as well.

  4. Even *I* don't go that nuts on them. The difference between Excellent and Legendary isn't THAT much.

But good luck carrying that salary burden after your revenue falls off.

  5. Oh, and Michael Henderson:

You can see what other coaches are being paid on the web site by going to

    Standings -->
    Click on Team -->
    Click on Coaching Staff

That'll show you what a team is paying a coach and for how long.

  6. I'm not too worried about the salary hit. $15m for three years is about what I'd pay for a top flight free agent his year. And, considering the crop this year, I had to spend the money somehow.

  7. And, coaching money isn't guarrantied, so I can dump coaches at will if needed. But, I don't anticipate that. My finances should be good for the next few seasons.

So, spending this money was a no brained. Still, I apologize for helping make the problem worse.

  8. Man, I felt like my offer to the Hitting Coach I signed was out of control. Michael made me feel like I was shopping at Value Village. Good grief.

  9. Thanks Nate. That might have helped me a bit if i'd known about it before. I'm still finding my way around the website and the program.

    cheers,
    michael.

  10. Mack: My franchise has always been first class, and has never shopped at the Value Village. We demand excellence here in Los Angeles (South Bay, Florida, Stockholm...), and we're willing to pay for it.

  11. Michael (the LA one):

There's a difference between paying for excellence and then actually buying the mythical $600 hammer.

At least we've now found a way to almost neutralize the revenues springing from your inflated merchandising income.

  12. Well, I offered Feldman more total money (just under $2M a year for five)... can't blame him for taking $3M per year though.

  13. I'm just thrilled I didn't need any coaches this year. This market looks out of control.
