Wheeler Derails, Seattle Takes 2-0 Lead

Sherman Wheeler failed to make it out of the fourth inning today, putting Seattle in a position to take a firm 2-0 lead. Wheeler left the game with one out in the fourth and with Seattle leading 5-1. After that, Seattle never looked back. Chad Nelligan pitched eight innings, giving up five hits and one run. Nelligan, who went 1 for 89 at the plate this year (.011 -- although that hit was a home run) also helped his cause with a triple in the fourth off Weaver.

  1. You're telling me. I can't believe I finished 17 games behind the Team That Lost Twice to Seattle.*

    * Assuming Seattle actually finishes you off this time, which we all know is far from given.

  2. And you'll finish further behind next year, Michael. Think about how that'll feel.

  3. I would like to point out, just for the record, that I've managed to lose a 3-1 lead in the Cecil Cup before. 2-0 is nothing.

Plus, Nate has his lefty taking the mound tomorrow and, despite the improvement I've made against left-handers with the acquisition of Deleon and the development of Alustiza, I've still got a ways to go. I was only 24-15 against lefties this year, compared to a 90-33 mark against right handers.

  4. That said, Larry Hockett may be making it hard for me to replace him in the offseason.

  5. Nate: I fully don't expect to compete next year. Sure, finishing second to continue my streak will be nice, but I'll just rebuild and come back on top in a few years.

  6. By the way, the road team has now won 8 of 9 between these two teams, going back to last year. The only home win was by Seattle in game 7. This doesn't fill me with confidence for Game 3.

By the way, in my 10 simulated exhibition game threes today, River Cities won 8 of them. A win tonight will require someone to step up for the Monarchs when it really counts.
