I completed Sim 7 last night, but did not post who uploaded. I'll edit this post tomorrow night to include that.
Two quick points regarding last nights sim:
1. Jeremy brought to my attention that the TV contracts for his team expired back in 2004. Further investigation revealed that this was the case for *all* the expansion teams. I extended all the TV contracts for the expansion teams by another two years (to 2013).
2. Please keep in mind that the trading deadline (July 31) is coming up - so, if you want to make any deals, now is the time to do it.
Edit: Teams that uploaded:
Houston
Seattle
River Cities
Los Angeles
New York
Walla Walla
8-1 on this sim, and I'm back in the hunt for the Zotti League title. Of course, my seven game winning streak pales next to Mack's 12.
ReplyDeleteNo injuries this sim for the Scorpions, which is nice. Of course, I only have one OF worth starting, so I either have a black hole at the bottom of my lineup, or I have to do some more dealing.
One notable happening is that John Redman did not make the All Star team for the first time in league history. The All Star game, as I suspected, was won by the superior Zotti League all stars, which makes me question, again, how the hell River Cities lost to Seattle twice in a row.
Zev, you're doing good work.
ReplyDelete9-0 sim. Four starting pitchers, one closer, and all eight starting position players named to the All-Star team. No significant injuries. Placencia is 9-0 with a 1.14 ERA and a 86:5 strikeout to walk ratio since joining the squad. Team ERA is below 3.00. First in runs scored and runs allowed. Even 6-0 in extra innings.
I have absolutely nothing to complain about. Keep up the good work.
P.S. As to the All-Star game, the problem clearly stemmed from (a) playing too many non-Monarchs and (b) using three-time OBA (Outstanding Batter Award) first baseman Greg Mudge out of position as a catcher. Mudge had no clue what he was doing back there, as his "pitch calling" led to eight runs in three innings before he was pulled. The Zotti League posers notably did not score again once order was restored to the universe and a real catcher inserted. If the Monarchs' regular line-up had just been trotted out there, I have no doubt that the result would have been an Adams victory.
The true villain is former Monarchs manager Alvin Davis, now working for the Los Angeles Scorpions. As you will recall, Davis was manager when the Monarchs won the Adams title last year but was fired before the Cecil Cup for improper use of a three-man rotation during the regular season. Davis was the Adams League's manager this year and repeatedly used players out of position. I suspect Davis's actions, which are out of character for him, were at the orders of the shady high roller who owns the Scorpions.
We really need interleague play in this league. I miss beating Mack, Trevor, and Will!
ReplyDeleteAll Star Game:
ReplyDeleteBy my count nine Sternwheeler's made the squad, Suarez, Hukill, Callahan, Valdes, Palacio, Villatoro, Scull, Wheeler and Theriault. Seven of them got to play. Collectively they went 5 for 11 (.454) with 1 RBI and 2 doubles. The pitchers got the win and the save in the game.
Three starters, one closer, and five position players got the honor. I can live with that.
Would somebody like to take a crack at explaining my home/road splits? Please?
ReplyDeleteI'm no statistician, but 3 games isn't much of a difference between home/away. What would the standard deviation be over 40 some home/road games?
ReplyDeleteAlso, we all play in the same ballpark, so is there really a home field advantage in this league (note: my team has exactly the same record on the road and at home)?
No, three's not. But 13 is.
ReplyDeleteOh, sorry Mark, I looked at Mack's home/road splits. You Adams League teams all look the same to me. :)
ReplyDeleteI have no idea. Random fluke, I guess.
