The Amigos scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back as they defeated the Cleveland Steamers 9-2 and clinched their first Cecil Cup championship, 4 games to 1!
Not much to say about this one, Anthony Koepp was wild from the start, walking one batter and then hitting the next three, before getting pulled without even getting a single batter out. Meanwhile, Saskatoon starter Jeff Blevins struck out seven in 6.2 innings and earned the victory.
The league file is posted. I've simmed the first day or so of the offseason, and now everyone gets to choose whether to tender contracts and decide on their options for 2016.
Zev will take things over from here as we march into the new offseason. Big changes are definitely afoot in the SDMB League!
Michael, you did not point out that Koepp and Salazar started a bench clearing brawl in the first inning after Koepp hit Murry and Salazar back-to-back. Guess Koepp was a bit too wound up for this game.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Eric!!! You kicked my a$$ and that is not an easy thing to do.
I also want to point out that Saskatoon did all of this with injuries to 3 SP (the most important being Cohen in game one of the series), and without arguably the best hitter in the league Frison, who was not having one of his best years after missing all of 2014, but is still tough to lose. That is for all of you that think that if you have an injury or two you can't overcome it like Eric did.
Therefore, added praise should be given to Eric for overcoming his injuries and winning in the manner he did.
Thanks Jeremy. Congratulations on a great season, even without the title. Back to back Cecil Cup appearances is a great accomlishment.
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought journeyman pither Jef Blevins could hurl almost 13 innings of great baseball in place of the injured Coen? Baseball is a weird game. Blevins is in a contract year and his agent must be doing backflips now. And whose ever heard of a bench-clearing brawl in a clinching playoff game? Fun stuff, at least for the victors. Thanks to all, particularly Zev and Michael, for a good SDMB season. Cold beer and moose jerky is flowing in The Great White North this week. If only th Canadian hickey team also prevails...
Somehow, I missed the brawl while combing the box score and game log for the lede. What a remarkable inning.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Eric and Jeremy on a very entertaining series, and for great seasons by both teams.
