Paddlewheelers Paddle Hester To Set Up Game 7

It wasn't a good night for Christopher Hester. The sophomore righty started off on the wrong foot right away, giving up a one-out single in the first to likely Outstanding Rookie winner John Hukill. Sabertooth went to second on a walk and then scored on a two-out single by Timothy Palacio.

He tried to stop the bleeding, but was knocked around for two more runs in the third on a Palacio double. Two more hits and a wild pitch gave River Cities another two in the fourth. Reliever Kevin Stephens gave River Cities another run in the fifth, but they would never actually need it.

Seattle managed to get two on the board in the bottom of the sixth on four consecutive singles, but pinch hitter Charles Novotny struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning. The Monarchs had another chance in the eighth when they loaded the bases with no one out on two singles and an error, but the rally died when Francis Armendariz lined out and pinch hitter Waylon Blassingame grounded into an inning-ending double play.

Game 7 -- for all the marbles -- tomorrow night. River Cities @ Seattle

  1. Sigh. I have no chance, not really. Another new and exciting way to have my heart broken.

At least I'll have something to add to my sig. There's something to be said for that. Besides, there's three teams that have won Cecil Cups. There's only one Seattle though with four cup losses. I'm unique.

  2. Chin up, Mack, the early '90s Bills were one of the best teams of the decade.

  3. When you're looking to the Bills or the Vikings for inspiration, it's a sad, sad story.

  4. Oh, c'mon, Mack. It's a good series, isn't it?

I won't deny I want to win but it's been a nailbiter. I've hardly been able to move forward and think of next year.

Who's it going to be? Bird? The main questions will be:

    1. Can Bird keep my offense in line.
    2. Will my more rested bullpen come into play. Yours has a bit more work right now.

  5. Yeah, it's Bird, against, I presume, Villatoro? Heck of a match-up and worthy of a Game 7.

  6. I'd love for this game to be simmed inning-by-inning, with a running liveblog kept by Zev, and possible mid-game moves by Nate and Mack (via IM).

That's been my dream since we started this league. A Game of the Week, so to speak. Who knows if it is even feasible, but it'd be a lot of fun.

  7. For a game seven that would be fun... although I wouldn't want to do mid-game moves. We're GMs, not field managers.

That being said, I may be able to do an inning-by-inning liveblog -- depending on how things are at home when I get there. If the kids are good and my wife isn't drowning in her own schoolwork, I may be able to do it. If not, then I'll just run the game as is.

In any event, I have to agree with Nate -- this has been a great series.

  8. This is WAY more tense than NHL playoff action, in my humble opinion.

  9. Zev: If you do a live weblog, send out an email when you're starting so that I can tune in and live or die with each installment.

I also recognize it's a great series. Nervewracking and an emotional roller coaster, but a great series nonetheless.
