Everybody!!!
Just some notes: some players made some claims on Covington players that the computer put on waivers. While I wasn't going to stop anyone from doing so officially as commissioner, I wasn't crazy about the further deconstruction of the team. As a result, I used my position not as commissioner, but as the team with the worst record (hey, the 2-11 start actually worked out for something) to put in a claim on some Covington players. However, anyone that I get (I got one player) will not be placed on my major league roster and will be given back to Covington once a new owner is found. (While I can't just give a player away, he'll be traded for a nobody prospect).
As it turns out, Nate put me in touch with one of the owners in his league and he has expressed interest in taking over the Covington team. I'll be emailing him later today and hopefully the "sale" can be closed in the next few days. Since the measures proposed passed a majority vote, I'll be implementing them before the next sim.
Lastly, on a personal note, I'm glad to see that my team went 8-4 this sim, to get us out of the cellar.
Next sim next Wednesday.
Have a happy Turkey Day everyone!
Zev
Nice to see some distance between those SoCal weasels and my uplifting, God protected Sternwheelers. All is becoming as it should be.
ReplyDeleteNice to see SS Hukill 1st in OPS, 1st (tied) in HR, 1st in RBI, and first in runs. That's going well.
Weird to see: Last year's knock out pitcher Juan Villatoro 0-1 with these peripherals: ERA 3.12, 30 Hits in 34 innings, 8-1 K/BB, Opponents average of .224, and a WHIP of 0.98. Weird, eh?
But it's good to see Michael dropping back with New York and Walla Walla catching up. Fourth place is still within your grasp, Michael! Reach out and take it!
Things I am thankful for in the SDMB OOTP League:
ReplyDelete1. My shiny new 22-3 record. At this rate, I'll be setting up my playoff rotation before the trade deadline.
2. Being 1st in runs scored and 1st in runs allowed. It's a nice symmetry.
3. A truly absurd and quite unsustainable .322 team batting average. I mean, .322? You've got to be kidding me.
4. A 6-0 beginning, in six starts, for Christopher Hester.
5. A 2.20 ERA from Albert Garcia, who appears to be successfully holding off Father Time for another season.
6. My three young relievers (Bohon, Elton, Toyoharu) are pitching fairly well with a combined 3.50 ERA.
7. The Monarchs are even second in fielding percentage and have given up only two unearned runs.
All in all, this whole thing is absurd. I'm not paying Zev nearly enough for these kinds of results. (Just kidding, obviously.)
It'll be too bad when the small-sample-size Gods turn on me. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts.
Speaking of the absurd:
ReplyDeleteGary Giles is batting .222 with an OBA of .412, SLG of .589, adding up to an OPS of 1.001. He has 20 hits thus far, with ten of them being homers. His .412 OBP doesn't surprise me, but the homers are a very nice surprise.
I'd expect Shunk, Jeon, or Peppers to be at double-digits in homers thus far, but it's the lead-off guy, instead.
Meanwhile, Rocco Wojcik has pitched himself out of a job, and Anthony Koepp has been called up for his major league debut. Despite basically forfeiting one out of every five games, I'm still within striking distance of first.
The Christian Sitton Experiment has ended, with last year's Rule V pick now on a bus to Arizona Bay. Meeting him on the 10 freeway is westward-bound Robert Young, last year's 2B starter who tore the cover off the ball for the AAA Tools this month while on a rehab assignment after a season-ending injury late last year. He'll take over 3B while Jeffrey Drewry continues to manage 2B while Charles Novotny is hurt.
Another sim, another major injury: This time it's William Augustin, who will be out for six more weeks.
