I thought my team was pretty good. Maybe I could catch Seattle, maybe not. But who would have guessed that after 13 games I'd be 2-11?? Can I blame it on injuries? Did Beau Manning blow out a lung? Did Miguel Cuesta suddenly burst a brain vessel? No, not quite.
It's like everyone just stopped playing well. Manning is hitting .191., Turek .228, Cuesta .204. Only Collazo, at .304, is hitting for a decent average.
And the rotation is no better! Did Setliff's arm fall off? He's 0-2, 10.39 and 2.77 WHIP! Delvalle is mired at 0-2, 6.55. Siple's been pitching OK, but apparently has no support.
Sigh. It's gonna be a long season.
No complaints thus far in Los Angeles. Junior Cuomo isn't stretched out yet to make it long enough to pick up a W, but my middle relievers are picking it up for him. All of my starters except for Wojcik have superb ERAs, my offense is on fire (except for the black hole behind the plate), and my top two relievers have some take-one-for-the team inflated ERAs in the early goings.
ReplyDeleteDown on the farm, Anthony Koepp is heating things up in Arizona Bay. He'll be the first one up should Wojcik struggle again in the next sim.
As expected, I'm neck-to-neck with Nate, and we're tied 2-2 against each other. He's gotten to beat up on Covington, while I've won six of seven from Danville.
(Oh, for Nate: I've already got 4 of my 95 predicted losses. Only 91 to go!)
Zev:
ReplyDeleteI think you're doing a fine job simming. 12-1 is acceptable after 13 games. Keep up the good work.
Again the early story is an injury for me. While I can't complain about a 9-4 record out of the block losing my new stud 1B Marzano to a ligament injury is, in many ways, painful. It shaved some of his power potential and dropped him from 5 star to 4 star right there. He was injured late in the sim so the downstream effects of having him out will be felt for the next three sims. We'll have to see how that plays out. He was a development promotion (good enough to play but needing time to become a star) so it won't hurt my offense like losing Hukill or Valdes would.
ReplyDeleteOn other issues I'm not surprised that I lead the lead in batting average and OPS. It's where I projected I would be: right there on top of that.
What is surprising is our much discussed Covington. 2nd to last in AVG, first in HR, 3nd in SLG, first in SB. There's either something there or a statistical fluke. Oofah.
My expanded pitching staff (six starters and six relievers this year) surprises me with the relievers doing a bang up job and the weakest starter, developmental promotion Marez, leading the pack with a 1.69 ERA. Also surprising is that last year's hotshot Villatoro hasn't picked up a win in his first three starts.
Overall, I'm leading the Zotti league in ERA, hits allowed, runs allowed (no unearned runs yet!), HR allowed, walks allowed, strike outs, opponents average, complete games (with one!), and tied for first in saves. I'll take that out of the gate.
It's a long season and a short sample size. Let's see how it plays out.
Nate:
ReplyDeleteIt sure would be nice if you could acquire a solid first baseman like Covington's Russell Powell to tide you over through this Marzano injury. And you definitely have the prospects to spare to pick him up.
By the way, I feel your pain. Granado came down with an injury in AAA too. I hope it doesn't affect his future too much.
Man, so much for my vaunted starting pitching staff... I guess Giddings has got a little jitters from being up on the big stage.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's one ugly line from my closer.
My starting pitching...not so much. How the hell does a team go 7-6 with only one win from a starter? It's not even as if I have bad starters. They're nothing great, of course, and one of them went down with an injury 4 innings into his second start, but come on. This is not good.
ReplyDeleteMack's got a good question, there, Zev. If I wanted to deal for Powell how would I?
ReplyDeleteLast season, Zev wouldn't let me make a trade offer to the then-computer run Denver team (ironically, I wanted to trade for Paul Shunk then, too).
ReplyDeleteSo, I'm curious, too, how he's going to let Nate trade with the computer-run Covington team.
