Big 6th Inning Sinks Nelligan, Monarchs

River Cities came up with a huge sixth inning in Game 1 of the Cecil Cup and chased Monarch starter Chad Nelligan back to the showers. Nelligan was also undone by two errors.

  1. Well, you can't really blame the outburst in the sixth on the errors. While there were two errors, Valdes was thrown out at third trying to stretch a double and Palacio was thrown out stealing second. The Paddlewheelers just flat out paddled Nelligan. And, unfortunately, the Monarchs offense just didn't string together enough hits or hit with any power.

Also, for what it's worth, the team that wins Game 1 has won 6 of the 8 Cups where I have data. But, the two times the team has come back to win after losing Game 1 were in the 2008 and 2009 series between River Cities and Seattle. So, I'll take some hope from that.

  2. Nothing more than I expected from the charging hordes.

Of course, I'm lucky I got to see it at all given that my hard drive flew apart (sorta). $200 later I'm back up and ready to go.

    What did I miss?
