And It All Comes Down To Game 7....

The Cleveland Steamers have pushed the Seattle Monarchs into a Game 7 with a 5-2 victory in Game 6 of the Cecil Cup.

Seattle jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Dong Lutz home run. Cleveland matched that with a run in the top of the second with an RBI single by SS William Midkiff. Cleveland took the lead for good in the sixth on Tyler Thomas' RBI single and an RBI groundout by John Clawson.

The Steamers added another run with an RBI single by John Grondin in the seventh. Seattle came back with one run in the eighth, but it wasn't enough.

Game 7 (for all the marbles) will be Monday night.

  1. Interesting game, 18 hits by my Steamers, but only 5 runs, only 2 ER let up, but Gerth got hurt and 4 MR were used so my pitching is going to be thin for game 7.

Also, Gerhardt is out for game 7 which is going to hurt Seattle. Could be interesting at the top of the Seattle lineup. And the win every other game is still going on for me 17 games strong. It has to stop at some point doesn't it?

  2. I also did some quick math on my team's offense this postseason and it has been a bit amazing. My splits as a team are .302/.336/.419 which against the pitching staffs of River Cities and Seattle is nothing to sneeze at.

I also want to point out that William Midkiff has done much more than asked for while filling in for injured Carlos McCrea. His splits are .375/.395/.450 with 10 RBIs picking up the bottom end of my lineup and getting many key hits in the LCS and the Cecil Cup.

Tomorrow evening it is on like Donkey Kong.

  3. This is the conclusion to one hell of a post-season.

  4. Normally, I'd feel good about a game where my pitching staff didn't walk a batter. But, 18 hits and 2 errors? Defense didn't come to play.

In Game Seven, Hester better come to pitch, as both of my long relief options were used up in Game Six.

And I don't know who the hell I'm going to start in place of Gerhardt. Adding injury to insult just sucks.

I would say it's a good series, but none of the six games have really been close. Is a seven game series where none of the first six are in doubt really a great series? I guess we'll see. If the Steamers can pull off their second straight Game Seven upset of a powerhouse, this postseason will definitely go down in SDMB OOTP history.

  5. I'd also like to note that Monday is my birthday. Jeremy, I can think of an appropriate present. I'll give you a hint. It's not second place for the Monarchs. (laugh)

  6. Here's hoping for a thrilling, extra-inning affair to conclude what sounds like an exciting post-season.

  7. Look for the meta-game, Mack. The tension in a great series isn't the individual games, though that can add to it, but in the back and forth of the win-expectation of the players and those involved. By trading back and forth this series has been on tenterhooks in a way that wouldn't happen if one team had one three and the other then won three to bring us to game seven.
