OK, I think I've allowed Mack to bask in the glory of his Cecil Cup championship long enough. Time to move on.
There will be two more sims for making offers to your pending free agents before they go free. The first will be Tuesday night and the second will be Wednesday night.

Hey, I've behaved. I've pretty much only basked on the inside.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, does anyone think I can sign Lutz to a one-year league minimum deal with a really, really large bonus for winning the MVP? I can't really offer more because I used the money he turned down to lock up Placencia and others.
ReplyDeleteI'm tempted to try it with like a $100M bonus just to see if it can be done.
I've also considered offering a $300K contract with a $25M bonus triggered at one plate appearance.
I'd be interested to see the outcome of that experiment.
ReplyDeleteAs the Season of Lutz dawns, Hickory would like to make a public service announcement to those teams seeking a first baseman but unwilling or unable to engage in the furious competition for Dong that is about to ensue:
ReplyDeleteFirst baseman Gregory Mudge is 34 years old. In just over 11 years in the major leagues, he has hit 352 home runs, the second-highest total in league history, and is perhaps two decent seasons away from passing Russell Powell as the all-time leader.
Mudge spent 2014 on the disabled list with a fractured ankle, but in the full season prior to that injury he hit 35 home runs and slugged .497 en route to an overall OPS of .825. In his career, he has never had a full-season OPS under .800.
He is regarded as Well-Known nationally, and is likely to be a boost to any team that acquires him in terms of fan interest. Mr. Mudge has been supplanted as the Cornfield's first baseman by the much younger Federico Soriano, and Hickory is interested in trading him - and his contract, which runs through 2017 at about $6M per.
There are obviously no guarantees with a 34-year-old power hitter who was already slipping and just missed a full year due to injury. However, the price tag in terms of return would be fairly to extremely low, so any team with a bit of spare budget room that wants to roll the dice is encouraged to contact the Hickory front office at their convenience.

I'll add in that Gregory Mudge is a damn fine player and all of us in the Seattle Monarchs front office miss his presence.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, we are also broke. Sorry, Greg.
