Proposed 2016 Schedule

As you all know, the schedule generated by the game for the last two seasons has been... a bit wacky to say the least. There have been numerous instances of teams with wildly unbalanced home/away schedules against other teams.

I took a stab at correcting this and came away with a great deal of respect for professional schedule makers -- and I had a much easier job than they did. I didn't have to deal with the logistics of real-time air travel (our players wouldn't mind going from California to New York to Washington...) nor did I have to deal with hotel bookings, conflicting stadium events, etc. Nonetheless, this was a fairly challenging task... but I did it (I think).

Here is the proposed schedule for 2016 (and every year thereafter). The season is broken down into four segments of ten serieses. Each series is either three or four games in length. The grey games are home games and the orange games are away (or these can be reversed each season).

Please take a look at the schedule and let me know what you think. I'd also appreciate it if you checked your own team's schedule and confirmed that you have 16 or 17 home and away games vs. each other team.

For those in the Zotti League, the schedule is the same... simply substitute the team names as follows:

BRK -> DAN
MAU -> NY
HIK -> CLE
HOU -> LA
SAS -> RIV
SEA -> OH

Take a look... tell me what you think or if you spot any errors.

Thanks,

Zev

  1. Looks good at first blush, Zev. Are there off days scheduled? And the All Star game?

  2. Is there any thought to "inter-league" play? Seems like the old national league schedule of 18 within division (league) 9 home and 9 away and 12 other division (league) 6 home and 6 away would be easier to schedule. This could create balance and give some thought to trading within divison rather than always outside. Just a thought.

  3. I can't argue with that. It would be a good thing. I'd like to see us play the other side and expand the competition a bit.

    Also, as a plus, schedules for such are available, pre-made for free from OOTP.

  4. I've been kicking around ideas of four-division, no-wild-card realignment for a few seasons. We could have, truly, an Ohio division. Ideally, it'd be aligning by geography, either of the team or the owner.

    Something like this:

    East division: Brooklyn - New York - Houston
    West division: Maui - Los Angeles - Seattle
    Ohio division: Ohio - River Cities - Cleveland
    Central division: Saskatoon - Hickory - Danville

  5. I like the 4 division idea, but I don't like the 3 teams per division. I think that we would need to add 4 teams to do that, and we all know how easy it is to get new owners for the additional teams :)

  6. I've found a 3 division, four-teams-in-each schedule with wildcard on the OOTP site. It's ready to be plugged in.

  7. I, too, would be interested in mixing things up a bit and like Nate's suggestion. But if we stick with the current (no inter-league play) system, your schedule looks good, Zev.

  8. Yes, there are off-days and an All-Star game.

    I didn't factor in interleague play. If anyone wants to come up with a schedule for next season before we start, I'm willing to put it up - otherwise, let's go with this one for 2016 and I'll come up with an interleague schedule (pending a vote of approval) for 2017.

  9. Fair enough.

    I sent you the schedule I mentioned up there. It includes 3 divisions of 4 teams each and a wildcard, I believe.
