Longtime Seattle first baseman Gregory Mudge was named to the SDMB OOTP Hall of Fame, becoming the fourth person enshrined and was inducted wearing a Monarch's crown.
Mudge retired from the league today among the league leaders in many offensive categories.

Mudge joins Saskatoon outfielder Michael Fay, Saskatoon pitcher Demarcus Ramirez and pitcher Chad Nelligan in the Hall.
The Seattle Monarchs take this joyous event as the proper time to announce a change in their front office. As everyone who closely follows the team is aware, former Monarch great John Willer has been manager of the team since 2011, regardless of what the computer might say. Willer has led the Monarchs to considerable glory in his nine years at the helm, as the Monarchs have claimed five crowns. Now, John wants to enjoy life a little. He will move into a position as consultant to the front office.
ReplyDeleteSo, the Monarchs organization is thrilled to announce that Greg Mudge will become the team's new field manager, effective immediately. "We couldn't think of a better man to lead our team than Greg," said owner/GM Mack Shultz. "He personifies everything that is Monarchs baseball."
P.S. Chad Nelligan has to be wearing a Monarchs hat in the Hall of Fame. He came to Seattle in a trade with Hickory in early June 2009. He then spent all of the 2010-2013 seasons and all of 2015 with Seattle. That's 5.5 seasons in Seattle, two more than he spent with any other team.
ReplyDeletePlus, Seattle was the site of his best years and where he won four Cecil Cups.
He's definitely wearing a Monarchs cap.
Nice to see a Hall of Famer retire as a Lenape. Eh, Mack? :)
ReplyDeletePfft. Mudge refused to report to your pathetic organization, which sits huddled in a rapidly thinning blanket of past successes against the cold wind of current futility.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm signing Peppers just to spite you. :)
