Maui Mashers Dethrone Monarchs With 10-3 Victory.

The Maui Mashers have captured the Cecil Cup and became the SDMB League champions for 2019 by defeating the Seattle Monarchs 4 games to 2.

In Game 6, it was Maui all the way.  They led off the top of the first with four runs and never relinquished the lead.

At this point, we'll take a few days off to allow Matt to bask in the glory of the title and return to our schedule on Saturday night.

Congrats Matt, on a season well played.

  1. Congratulations to Matt on the culmination of a lot of excellent work. I think it's worth pointing out just how bad the Denver/Hartford franchise was when he took it over before the 2013 season. The records the previous three years were:

    2010: 49-113
    2011: 50-112
    2012: 44-118

The franchise never had a better record than 74-88 and its best ever finish was fourth. Once. Every other year of its existence the team finished either fifth or sixth in the Adams Division. This was a really, really bad team that Matt took over.

But Matt rebuilt it. In the fourth year he had the team (2016), Matt won a division title. He's since won the Signorino Division all four years of its existence. Now he has a shiny trophy to punctuate his work.

So, nice job Matt. Congratulations on a well-deserved championship.

  2. Thanks Mack, and congratulations to you as well on another outstanding season. This is just more proof that anything can happen in a 7-game playoff series. There were a lot of mai tais in the Maui clubhouse yesterday.

I look forward to defending the title next year!
