Commissioner's Note:
There were several players in the rookie leagues who are not in their first pro year. I decided to let it go for this sim since I did not mention it in the previous blog post, but you have now been warned. :) Please move them out (or I will! :) )
Next sim: Next Wednesday.
Zev, if a player was signed by another team, never played, and then was released, is that player eligible for the Rookie League?
ReplyDeleteIn my mind, they ought to be. I see it kind of like NCAA eligibility. If a player never sets foot on the field, then they haven't used up their one year of rookie eligibility.
As a real world example, see Renton Royals outfielder Jack Mendez. Mendez was drafted by Houston in 2028 and then released before the rookie league even started. I signed him in the offseason and assigned him to my rookie league team. He just played in his first games as a pro, but he does have 1 year and 92 days listed as his "Time as a Professional."
Happy to abide by whatever the rule is.
P.S. You probably resolved this last year, but I couldn't find the answer. If so, I apologize for the inability of this information to stick in my brain.
Mack: We're not considering "redshirting" like the NCAA when it comes to eligibility. We are strictly looking at the number of Pro Service years listed under their Status (on the web pages).
DeleteSpeaking as an owner who knows how much of a pain this is, I'd love to ease that restriction to either age-limit the rookie league (23?) or go away with it entirely. This would benefit our commissioner duties, as well as not flush out players who need more time before reaching the A level minors.
But that's just me, and that's not the rule we agreed on.
Thanks Michael. That tells me what I need to know for this sim.
DeleteBy the way, for those of you trying to quickly find any players in the rookie league who may not qualify to be there, there's a shortcut to looking at all of the player pages. If you go to the "Players" screen for your Rookie League team, and customize the view to add "Pro Years" (an option under the Financial Info tab), it will create a new "Pro Years" column.
DeleteAnybody with something more than zero needs to be promoted or otherwise dealt with.
I had a slight foul up:
ReplyDeleteI signed a few 1st Year Pro RPs after the draft to fill my Rookie League bullpen. But I forgot to cut down below 35 and some got shuffled to other Minor League rosters. One accidentally pitched 1/3 of an inning before I could fix it before the next sim. I'm sure this is within the spirit of the rule if not the letter. If he gets cut, no big deal as they were all filler. But if you see a guy with 1/3 of an inning in AA in 2029 you'll know why.
I just realized this is a tough sim coming up for Seattle. Every game is against a team at or above .500.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, mighty Monarchs.
