Seattle Wins In 10, Fike Throws Two-Hit Shutout: Both Series at 3-2

The Seattle Monarchs needed 10 innings to defeat the Cleveland Steamers and take a 3-2 lead in their playoff series.  Both teams put two runs up in the first inning:  Cleveland's pair coming via a 364 foot homer by Tyler Thomas and Seattle's runs by a Roger Nicols lead off homer and an RBI by "Nitro" Granado.  Cleveland put another two on the board in the fourth on a two run homer by Bill Torre.  Seattle answered back with a solo home run by "Rimfire" Cedeno in the sixth and an RBI double by Eugene Alustiza in the seventh.  The score remained tied until the bottom of the 10th when Cedeno hit his second blast of the day - a two run 415 foot walk-off homer off of reliever Arnold Pough to win the game.

Maui's Robert Estill hit a lead-off home run off of Saskatoon starter Hector Orozco's second pitch of the game.  After that, the Masher batters could have just sat on the bench the rest of the game as starting pitcher Kyle Fike pitched a two-hit shutout against the Amigos.  So dominating was Fike, that he had a perfect game until there were two out in the seventh.  In fact, the only batter to even reach second base for Saskatoon was pinch hitter Telmo Dalmau, who, in the ninth inning, received the only walk that Fike gave up and went to second on a groundout.  In the end, Fike ended up pitching the entire game and only faced 29 batters (one of the batters who got a single was erased in a double play), two more than the minimum for nine innings.

Even though they weren't needed after the first batter, the Maui batters also pitched in their share, chasing Orozco from the game in the third and scoring eight runs overall.

  1. OK, it is just a loss...not that big of a deal right...Pough had been lights out all season so it was not a horrible move by Johnson...I am definitely up against it for game number 6. I do not have the pitching match-up as Hester is better than any one that I can throw out there.

I also think I need to win Frank back over, when he left the Steamer bandwagon, I started to lose again, so Frank, I am no longer a Braves fan (this statement is for entertainment purposes only, nothing is truly meant by it)
