  1. Looks like it is going to be an interesting first round of the playoffs. In the Cleveland/Seattle match-up, it is going to be a classic pitching vs. hitting except both teams are good at both. Cleveland is first in just about every pitching categories while Seattle is #2 and in hitting Seattle is #4 or 5 in every hitting category (except SB) while Cleveland averages 6th in most of them while leading the league in BA and Hits. Which team will take this round is hard to say but I am looking forward to game one tonight which should have Cleveland ace (and future FA) James Turner vs the perennial ace for Seattle Ronald Placencia who is 6-3 with a 2.49 ERA in 9 postseason starts in the last 3 seasons.

For Saskatoon vs Maui, you have to wonder can Maui keep up this dream season. Saskatoon is coming in off of a 14-6 September but Maui has the best offense in the league their pitching is considered by many to be just a hair below Cleveland and Seattle. Ace Kyle Fike should be taking the mound for Maui and Saskatoon will have Thomas Cohen who has been solid since his acquisition from Seattle two off seasons ago.

Can Saskatoon repeat? Can Seattle re-take their place on top of the SDMB league? Will Maui keep it up? Can Cleveland reach their third straight Cecil Cup (and maybe win one)? Will Jeremy finally beat Mack in a playoff series (not including the 2004 OEL World Series - I am 0-3 since then with two of those going 7 games)?

So many story lines we all should be on the edge of our seats for this series starting tonight!!!!

  2. After a dreadful first half of the season, the Scorps played well (one game over .500 in the second half) and avoided the 100-loss stigma for the first time in franchise history.

If I can get some decent pitching, my team may contend again sooner, rather than later.

  3. Good playoff preview, Jeremy.

It's been a conflicting year for the Monarchs. Won the division and qualified for the playoffs, but a lot of key players failed to live up to my preseason expectations. It will be interesting to see if they can step it up in the playoffs.

It's also one of the first postseasons in a while where the Monarchs have gone in as clear underdogs. How will they handle it?

  4. Yeah, but you've got that three-headed monster of a starting rotation, Mack, which can be extremely helpful in the postseason.

Win or lose, I'm happy that my franchise won 104 games this year after winning 80, 72, and 54 in previous years. I hope this isn't the pinnacle for the Mashers.

I noticed something that I found interesting - each of the division winners had the same winning percentage on the road and at home.

    Cleveland: 52-29 home, 52-29 away
    Seattle: 48-33 home, 48-33 away
    Maui: 52-29 home, 52-29 away

That seemed rare enough to be worthy of mention.
